2015 Nissan GTR Spied Testing: Anaylsis




Here is your first look at the face lifted 2015 GTR (possibly to be  known as  EBA-R35) Seen in full camoflage, this test car was spotted  by a few Japanese Blogs this week. A few days ago I noticed a few points of interest from this first photo  when it was posted along with an article on the NISMO GTR. Now there is more evidence to back up those claims. Even though the car was taped up to hide the redesigns in the aerodynamic and cooling departments, GTR aficionado's can clearly see whats going on underneath. The  2015 GTR is expected to make its debut November 22 at the Tokyo Motor Show and be on sale in the late winter/spring here in the US with a NISMO version following.

On the  Left side you can again see the darkness in that area and no discernible canards. Then you can see a raised curved area toward the top outside of the  new opening

This second photo leaves no mistake that the front end has been changed. Smaller side mirrors appear to be present aswell as the bottom canard area seems to be replaced. The NIsmo GTR is expected to feature chrome red side mirrors(first seen on the NISMO Juke) as part of the universal NISMO branding theme. The inspiration is taken from the roof coloring of the NISMO/Autech Super GT500 racecar.

In this photo i have changes the contrast and mid tones to  highlight the indention where the stacked  canard  is currently on the  DBA-R35.

Looking closer at the current canard area up front, you can see that entire area recessed and opened  with a cooling duct reminiscent from the 2005 GTR PROTO.  daytime LED now sits in that opening. To me the cut out area looks deep behind the tape and curves upward to give the car a new body line in the front

It appears a side vent for rear brake and transaxle cooling could be present.

The car looks very similar to 2012+ almost no difference. I guess now I can consider upgrading to 14 :)
I was thinking they were going to do some LED's in headlights as so many other car manufactures are doing.
MC, I'm not sure I share the same opinion on the differences that you note in the pics. The plastic wrap seems to simply float over the canards that already exist on the current GT-R. I'm sure Nissan did make some changes though since they are disguising it but I don't see any significant changes.

edit: looking at the second picture, its a tough call whether or not the wrap is floating over the canard or if the shape of the bumper is indeed responsible... Hard to say.
The front end is now opened up thats been a probably the only "known" change way before these pictures surfaced. My claims are not based soley on these shots they only seem to back up one of the only details we can confidently say is in the works.

It is also worth noting that its possible the first and second photo are NOT  exact the same car. While they are both labeled 2 the  taping is different aswell as it appears the mirrors are smaller and the  2nd pic has the more pronounced curve in the opening.  so its possible that the 2nd car could be a working  NISMO mule.  Really impossible to draw many more conclusions than whats already stated at this point.

awesome news! Man I look forward to the upcoming news. I hope that its all worth the wait...I don't want to be disappointed.

Yeah, and the LEDs seem to have migrated upward a bit, no?

yeah but in the first pic they almost look like they are floating in the new indention. Again either the tape playing games with your vision or 2 different cars. Only clue is again  the  taped flatter looking side mirrors vs regular ones. :dunno:

Good find....but botton line is we're probably looking at some aesthetic/ cooling changes, possible powertrain bumps, and a higher price....hopefully the "EBA" is not a 3 year run....9 years with this body style is really pushing the limits IMO....don't get me wrong it's a great car and incredible bang for the buck....for myself there's no incentive to move up to a newer car unles it's an R36, and I'm willing to pay as I'm sure many others are.....I would be a buyer for an R36 in the 110-120K range....It will also be interesting to see how the early cars hold up in value in the coming years....The 2015 I'm sure will be great but for me personally I have lost interest in the car in it's current body.....
YAWN!! So basically..............not much has changed and it's not worth holding out for. Disappointing
I agree, Time for an R36. Not until 2017 or 2018?

I think  calender year 2017 as a  2018 model is the latest word on the street.  so the R35 has 2015 2016 and then possibly 2017 as a swan song

Perhaps not a lot of changes aesthetically, but if indeed there are new ducts front and rear (quarter) for cooling, these are good and much needed functional changes. I'm very curious what other functional and performance changes they have in store for us. Perhaps a significant power bump as some have speculated, similar to that of a CBA to DBA change? I'm guessing they will continue to fine tune suspension, LC, etc as they've been doing nearly every MY.  I suppose we'll find out in due time...

hopefully from the nismo.  I wouldnt expect over 20-25 from the  EBA-R35 as they have to   #1 leave room for the NISMO and  #2 leave room for the the remaining  couple of years

I was just saying yesterday in a post how I didn't think there were going to be drastic changes coming.  It's just not Nissan.  Look at the 350/370Z and the G35/37.  Those cars are pretty much the same now as they were when they were released ten years ago.

With regards to the GT-R, so much R&D went into building it, why would you scrap that unless you product began to fall behind?  The GT-R is one of the worlds most advanced cars -- anything other than incremental improvements would be wasteful and reckless.  Even if/when the R36 comes along, don't look for Nissan to do a complete reboot.  One of the drawbacks of the GT-R is that because it's so precisely built, even small changes to the body's design upset the complete package, and require more R&D.  Wind tunnels aren't cheap! = )
