AMS ALPHA G GTR Sets New World Record with 6 Sec 1/4 Mile

The  number 6 has been the "Holy Grail" among the  Elite in the GTR community for years.  It was thought to maybe be something  out of reach for the R35 platform. This weekend at TX2K  2017  IT  HAPPENED.  The AMS team and car owner/driver Gidi reached that pinnacle.  An achievement that has been long sought after taking every shop that pursued it down that same hard road of setbacks broken cars and untold amounts of money and time spent.  The WORLD Record of  6.937 @196/27 set by Gidi is a remarkable feat and appropriate bookend to the shop and driver who was also the first GTR in the 9s 8s and 7s.

SHOCKING really.  Fun to see the passion.

While it truly is monumental to see a GTR get into 6s, part of me wants to see a true "street" GTR - as in mostly full weight, with full interior, and things like power steering and AC - get there.

Don't mean to take anything away from Alpha G's incredible achievement, yet it is a purpose built, gutted race car, with no interior to speak of, lexan all around, and faux headlights.

Super bummed ETS didn't get their 6 sec pass.

I agree truly amazing accomplishment and well deserved in light of all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into getting there. However, the car really only is a street car in the sense that it once rolled off of a factory assembly line for street use.

Would be cool to see something like an import drag week where all the cars need to be registered and reliable enough to put hundreds of road miles between tracks. Now it is likely that a gtr or any awd/modern road car for that matter can't be built reliably enough to compete at that level but it would be awesome if so. Bet it could be done in the low to mid 7s but not in the 6s.

no way in hell a full interior GTR will run 6's imo

YEAAAAA

Getting into 6s range for a AWD street car is extremely difficult, that too with a maximum displacement of 4.4L (stroker kit, off course). But we have seen the GT-R do impossible stuff before! IMO, a dedicated approach to weight loss is required. Any shop trying this can start by forming a tubular front & rear subframes, super light weight kevlar or carbon bodywork, liberal use of aluminium & titanium for suspension components etc. Ceramic brake kits, may be carbon rims but I do not know any for drag applications, for street Carbon Revolutions is the way to go!!

Engine wise they need gobs of power to move that heavy ass! And may be rebuild the engine after every pass like Top Fuel dragsters, then may be the shop might have a chance!!

wow nice
