The customer requested we build him a balanced GTR that could run with anything on the streets of the tristate area. We came through using a lot of the quality AMS parts on this particular build.
The #s are preliminary, but decent thus far.
As always the AMS quality is 2nd to none, and made it very easy for us.

The Albins gearset is extremely quiet, and the finish is top notch.

800hp range runs are on 93 octane pump gas in AWD mode.
1000+hp run is in RWD mode with C16 as the fuel, boost at 31psi.

Ivey Technologies, Stage 1 short block with Manley rods and Pistons fully blueprinted and balanced.

Sean, is the albin gear set quiet?  how noisy is it comparing to the stock gears?

Just wanted to say congrats on a sick build;this time last year I was working a block from you guys(at the new Firehouse)&would have coffee break right across the street from your shop at the little greasy spoon ..always fast cars outside the shop&saw more than a few GTRs there as well ;)

Very quiet. I am actually surprised it's this quiet. I think it's pretty much like stock. The promax in this car makes more noise than the gerbox for sure.

From my rep at Albins when I asked him why their stuff is any better than anyone elses:


Our direct competitors/other manufacturers(and us until recently) use what is called a gear hobbing method where the teeth are cut with a hob to a fixed profile with a CNC driven machine. The parts are then heat treated. The problem is distortion from heat treatment and the poor surface finish from the machining process.
When using the latest gear profile grinding method first we hob the tooth profile close to size with some stock left on for grinding later on.
We then heat treat, shot peen, profile grind the teeth to exacting standards with custom profiles with incorporated tip relief to help avoid pitting and then finally we isotropic polish the parts.
The difference between the 2 methods is night and day, we have even purchased a TTI inspection machine which can measure helix angle, tooth profile and runout down to microns. See attached pic.
Sorry also forgot to mention we get our own spec alloy steels made.
We carry about $600k + worth of steel in our warehouse.

IMO this is a perfect example of how 2-wheel dyno runs, specifically how power is produced across the rev range, appear very different when compared to dynoing in AWD.  Notice the different shape of the HP & torque curves between 60 and 90 mph.  It does not seem logical that switching fuel and adding more top-end power would alter the shape of the curve down low; it should simply continue along the same curve but extend further upward as a result of the increased boost.  The slope of the torque curves in the 60-90 range are nearly inverse.  I can't logic through why that would be the case.  When comparing turbo kits and thinking about spool-up time (finding the total area under the curves) this discrepancy seems like it could make dyno output quite misleading.  Am I missing something or drawing incorrect conclusions?

  Thats the difference between dyno'ing in 4th gear in awd and 5th gear in 2wd.   Had the runs been in the same gear the curve wouldn't have looked so different.

Fantastic Results! Thsi is the best time an ALPHA 10 on a 3.8 has ever ran. Kudos to Sean, Ivey tune and the owner for driving one hell of a great pass!

This is correct however some shops can help out on labor rate to lessen the load of the total cost, and all based on what transmission you do shep 2.5 or 1k that's a 8k difference right there in total build cost. and shortblock vs longblock another difference of usually $5-6000
