I've recently been researching some electronics to install into my car that will help with detection of speed traps and the like. After re-reading the Wired article on Alex Roy's car (the one that broke the cross-country record) I noticed it had a Raytheon NightDriver thermal camera installed in it. http://www.nightdriv...ightdriver.html
I have seen the military grade here in Afghanistan. The version you are referring to is probably not be as good and definately would be very expensive, however would be a bad ass mod.
I know some aftermarket BMW guys were selling the FLIR a couple years ago as well. They said the refresh rate was slow. I'm not sure if it has improved since. I would hope so, since it's a pricey kit.
Let us know how it goes!

It looks like the cost would be around $3000 list for the base camera, harness, and bracket from FLIR.
I was looking into the refresh rate as well, and they sell cameras of different rates. It is illegal to export a camera with greater than a 9hz refresh rate from the US.
There's a video comparing the rates:
The 30hz is the same price as the 9hz it looks like.
Zac you are to much dude,FLIR as in forward looking infer red.Is some badd ass shit.It will be interesting on how to see you intergrate this.Your going to need seperate monitors in your car to be able to see everything.Good shit though

wow, the 30hz is significantly better. the 9hz doesn't look very usable. I can't wait to see this in action on your car!
