Hey guys current f82 BMW M4 owner here, as much as I love this car and fun it is to drive (FBO) I have really been considering switching over to a gtr. I would like to hear any input you guys have as owners.

M4 is nice and fast but gtr is kinda in different league. I've been really stupid with my income the past 20 years and just can't get enough car fun until I got gtr. I've had the civics / integral type r, evos & wrx, modded rx7 (still have access to it sold to my neighbor) then had c63 amg then ctsv. Each round of my car growth I have noticed big jumps in awesomeness. The evos and wrx were ten times more fun than hondas, the c63 and ctsv were another big jump over evos but the gtr is another jump over them. My v was modded too with 595whp and still the gtr gives me more willies than my v. I would put the m3/m4 in the same class as the amg & ctsv so going to gtr will be big upgrade in smiles per mile. You won't be disappointed

The M4 is plenty quick for most. The interior, heads up display, 360 deg parking cameras and sensors, and the way the car feels planted in corners are nice. The GTR is a different animal all together. Test drive one. Or find an owner that will let you feel the launch. What it sacrifices in creature comforts is well worth the performance.

It's a good upgrade, go for it!

Have you owned both? That's sounds hard to believe that it's much more reliable since the new M3s and M4s have been virtually issue free and proven to be reliable cars up to now. Just not looking to get into a headache, I heard stay away from 2013 and older.

I've never owned an M car, just a 535 so no clue on comparison

I have a base 2016 GTR with 6k miles

Note the child seat in my pic

Interior noise is not a major issue nor is the ride as rough as perceived by biased early reviewers

The interior is to be ignored, if it doesn't rattle, except having both an actual hand brake lever and push button start is uncommon

The tramlining and maintenance needs are big drawbacks IMO

All season capable, no problems at all

Huge plus is the ease of modding, it'll be my first turbo upgrade in a long line turbo'd cars

Not only would I get another GTR in the future, I would also go Japanese over German/Italian/Brit if possible

Gtr is very reliable and aside from a $2k trans oil change every 36,000 miles it's no more costly than any other sports car that comes with expensive summer tires to maintain.
My trans/diff oil change was under $900 with labor. 10 bottles oem trans fluid $500(ebay), 3 Motul diff fluid $75 (amazon), $20 in washers (dealership), $280 labor (Cobb SoCal).

Let an FBO E85 GTR take you for a spin and I promise there will be no looking back.... I had an E90 M3 and that's what happened to me... ha

I have not owned any M cars...but have drooled over them for years. One thing I can say is that the GTR is not a creature comfort car...at all. As others have mentioned, if you are willing to give up some of the "nice place to be" features of the BMWs, the GTR is a fantastic platform for performance.

You're making it sound like it's a Kia. The only big thing BMW and Porsche have over the GT-R is sound deadening. Interior wise the GT-R is far nicer than what you'll get in a Mustang or Camaro, and no worse than a barebones M3/M4.

I was in between buying a babied E92 M3 with bolt-ons and a stock 2014 GTR. They were within 8K of each other. I drove the M3 a ton over 2 months, drove a few stock ones til I found a FBO with super-low miles, loved every inch of it, the way it felt, drove, how nice it was inside. I thought the car was absolutely perfect but just couldn't pull the trigger.

My wife was sold on the M3 then I convinced her to come check out a '14 GTR with 4k miles. We rode in the 14 GTR. We did not drive it...I looked inside and out and went for a 15 minute ride in it and bought the GTR 2 days later. (I did get to drive it before actually buying it, but I made the decision I was buying it either way)

That much more car.

You will be happy with the GTR, no doubt. (if you're even considering it, you should pull the trigger)

I never said the interior was crap...but having owned Audis in the past...it is pretty "budget". Not GM rental car bad, but a big difference coming from German cars.
