Recent engine build with forged pistons & rods .... driving the car home this past Friday night and noticed white smoke coming from exhaust.

Pics of what I discovered upon further investigation Saturday morning.  FYI both the engine compartment / back of car smelled like antifreeze.

Little bit of background to share:

-January 26th I got car back first time and it had low compression on multiple cylinders (see pic), so I returned to builder to fix.

-March 20th car returned to me for the second time and above happened April 7th.

NO WAY I CAN TRUST THIS SHOP NOW!!!!  Sad to see this happen to almost new car (2016) I put almost $40 grand into :-(

Damn.  Any more details on what they messed up?  Can you share the shop name so those of us considering doing builds don't take our car there?

So I have decided to not do the Cams ..... $3500 for 25-30 HP is not cost effective mod in my mind.

Car is at Jacks getting Drag 800 (w billet baskets) and their basic piston / rod upgrade.

ER is my tuner and where I had USM's installed, just wanted to go with same person for both engine / trans.

Just a guess that it's the above shop...

Questions:

1. What was the cause of the initial low compression right after the build was done?

2. Who did the tuning?

3. Have you contacted the shop/tuner for resolution?

Suggesting what shop may have done it is irresponsible. More info on this is needed. Just posting this mess raises more questions than answers.

There's certainly going to be another side to this story.  However, it would be nice to know the shop, so we can hear their side.  If it were the shop my car is going to in 12 days, I'd like to know their side of the story before taking my car there.

I have had my car at multiple shops over the past 9 months FYI .... so please don't jump to conclusions.

To answer wicked ..... I don't know the cause of the initial low compression??  But it did take them almost 4 weeks to resolve and send back to me.  Critical piece was they wanted to tune car themselves ..... so I gave in and second trip around they also did tune.  Never really addressing my car had compression issue with original delivery (but when I got it back it seemed fixed per butt dyno)!!!

I have contacted the shop, sharing all the details with them ...... so far less than stellar ownership of craftsmanship / tune :-(

Here is what my oil looked like when drained Sunday, plus plugs for cylinder 2,4, & 6 (left one is cyl 2).

Seeing all that next up was cylinder leak down test, with cylinder 2 failing badly :-(

So I must ask since it wasn't entirely clear to all of us...

What are your intentions of posting this if you don't want folks to jump to conclusions?

Definitely a bad situation and hope you get things resolved.

Like I said before, build motor reliability is not good as many are not build right. That issue almost don't exist with Oem quality control

If I could go back in time 9 months, I would keep car FBO w/USM's ..... Goonthree is spot on.

Secondly, never ship my car out of state for work!!!!

so you had multiple shops? how do you know who caused what?the guy who built the engine could have done this, but so could the guy who tuned it, or who installed the bolt ons? We need a clear time line of what happened and where if you are looking for any useful help or if you are trying to protect the rest of us

This has zero to do with the bolt on parts our previous tune, car ran good.

All responsibility resides with shop that completed motor build and sourced out tune!!
