UPDATE2 - DIY GUIDE/FIX DETAILS POSTED - http://www.nagtroc.o...showtopic=39821
An increasing number of people are reporting incidents where their GT-Rs are not starting. There are a few impending warnings discussed (example: noises from the steering column when the car is started) and a few descriptions of the problem itself (examples: key doesnt seem to be recognized or gauge/key light coming on). The common trend though, seems to be that the car won't start and needs a steering wheel lock unit replaced.
This is not a small issue and needs to be addressed ASAP. It is unacceptable to have this many GT-R owners left stranded. The risks of this should be obvious - What if you need your car in an emergency? Or what if you go on a trip and stop for gas and have no cell coverage? A known issue like this should be addressed before it becomes a problem. We've seen a service campaign launch in Japan but as of yet, nothing has been done for the US.. despite the fact that there are clear cases of it happening here.
This issue warrants a dedicated master thread and sticky. Note that prior threads have been merged into this one. I would hope that Nissan will see this and at least issue a TSB, if not a voluntary recall. The issue should be fixed before it happens to owners that haven't seen it. Additionally, Nissan should be clear with owners who have seen it, whether or not their cars are truly fixed: We do not yet know why people are getting different part numbers (versions?) to replace the same failed part.
