With enough tire, weight reduction, power & proper suspension setup--the GT-R is definitely capable of taking on all comers--on some courses...

As for tires, I am not sure if we need to fit 315 all around.  It appears that 285 is already quite good.  Of course, the wider the better.

My car won't be even close to the level of your car's prep even after 2-3 years.  I will do the changes on at a time to really understand how each component affects the car.

This weekend, with my co-driver help, I am surprised to know that the tire pressure still played an important roll on the car even though it's runflats.

As for course, my target will be national type of courses, which should have a balance favoring both light weight small power and heavier big power cars. The course this weekend was a good example, some RX8 in CS managed to be within 3.5 secs behind the ASP cars, even though the course appears to be relatively high speed.

Update to post #97.

Overall a good day with decent weather.

Tight course but still manageable if you found the right line to drive that allowed you not to need to slow down much. Top drivers all bunched 0.5 seconds faster than my best run. Could have caught them but had a sloppy last run. Still I was fastest of the heavy power cars.

Hoosier A6 tires performed well for me, using 295/30-18 on all four corners. Fronts ran hotter up to 125 degrees vs rears at 115 degrees, front pressures up to about 37 psi and rears at 32 psi. Hoosiers seem to be wearing faster than Kumho V710s.

Finished 8th on raw time and 7th on Pax overall out of 92 drivers. One Miata in Super Street Modified class had two drivers and also the same car was used by two more drivers in E Modified class for a total of four times faster than mine. They worked together to get their times tightly clustered.

Nice job--course was nice, too.

Hoosiers will definitely wear quicker than Kuhmos--I think I stated that to you in an earlier thread. They definitely stick better, until they fall off. You'll get somewhere between 40-60 runs before they fall off/cord etc. Although, you may get more, if you're not that wild on them.

I tend to eat tires quick... lol

had an awesome day at the AutoX today... drove about has good as i have all season

I run time only for just Raw overall time but we have a bunch of shifter karts that always skew the results...so not counting the go karts ( we had 7 F125 entries) i finished 8th out of fendered 79 entries.. ... and my fun run in the afternoon i did without a passenger, cleaned up a few tight areas and knocked a whole second off that would have put me about 5th or 6th

this is all on stock worn runflats

Here is my best official run ...we did bonus fun runs in the afternoon and i ended up taking a full second off this time

^^^ Nice job, MC...

Season Finale updates...

The GT-R fought back hard from a big deficit to garner me our club's (Martin Sports Car Club) ultimate award--Tiger Champion (our overall driver of the year) in our own concoction of a class--Street Mod Street Tire AWD. This class is by far, our most competitive class & includes most of our club's quickest drivers--I'm very proud of the tooth & nail battle, coming from far back in the standings to win. The car has been a bear to get to work on street tires on our not-so-grippy asphalt regular venue surface. Also, our lot is only 300x600' & some of the courses this year have been way too tight. Very satisfying Championship (my 4th)

YES!!!!!!!

Also, we had our yearly FL State Championship event down in Ft Myers yesterday. Most of the State's top drivers go down to compete for class & bragging rights--been going on since '74.
I was on my Hoosier/CCW SCCA setup, trying to re-acclimate to R-comps & concrete in a hurry. I was up against a killer BSP Evo (my car is in ASP prep), where we bumped each other to SM to battle it out. The car was in P2 after day 1 @ Nationals this year in BSP (problems on day 2), driven by National Champ Greg Hahn. We picked up where we left off @ the National Tour earlier this year, where Godzilla prevailed.
Well, Godzilla prevailed again by a whopping 1.2x sec, AND also garnered fendered FTD. It almost caught the 125 shifter cart (short by abt 1/2 sec). The car is astonishing on R-comps & concrete.
It had PAX until the very last round when the sun started to set & 2 SS cars & 1 STR car stole it's thunder--DAMMIT! LOL The course was a speed-maintenance, busy momentum course--so I was very pleased w/ how it did.

The plans are to go ahead & make it a legitimate SM car for next year. Titan is excited by the results & is ready to get the car prepped for heavy battle. First step--wider front fenders & monster meats all the way around--stay tuned...

Still a few more events for my season- weather is always decent in Hawaii

Event 7 Nov 13- 1st out of 1 in class, 22nd on raw time out of 93 drivers, 24th on PAX overall despite running on OEM worn runflat tires due to one lug nut stuck on the stock stud. Might have got some dirt in the threads and it would not come off.

Posted Image
The stock wheel studs- had about half with damaged threads- ended up replacing them all in the fronts

Here is the video on stock tires-
http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream

I usually practice fun runs on stock tires so I wasn't too far behind the competition on R compound tires. About 0.5 seconds from some of the experienced BSP drivers. Normally my race tires will get me 1.5 seconds faster runs than on stock tires and that would have put me close to the top 3 for the day. Hopefully better luck this weekend at event 8. Still three more events to come for the rest of the season then runoffs in April.

Event 8 update to post #97

1st in class, 5th on raw time overall out of 81 and 6th on Pax overall.

Here's the video
http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream

Course had two loops on itself, one a large oval and the other a small decreasing radius turn. There were some tight kinks to slow things down and a fast run to the finish.

Not a good day for me. Went to EVO school earlier in the month. Had a lot to try out.

Did OK but needed to be cleaner due to hitting a cone on my last two runs.

For the day, 15th out of 85 on raw time, 17th on PAX overall. Had a run 0.5 seconds faster but coned. Each run was faster but not clean on the last two by a small amount.

Still clinging onto 9th overall on PAX for the season with three events to go and I will miss the next event. Got two more events in March then April is runoffs for the season.

finished 12th out of 102 cars today... did very well most those in front of me were very autoX dedicated prepped cars with racing slicks including 4 places consisting of 2 drivers in both a elise and and race prepped 350z on hoosiers with some expert drivers

track was pretty slick today but all in all im pleased with the results especially with my show up and run approach

End of regular season today. Not good, 1.5 seconds off the leaders but not sure why. Didn't feel bad, no cones hit, just could not find a way to keep up. Max Speed 62 mph.

In April we will have run offs. 3 runs in one direction then after lunch reverse the direction. Winner is best combined time from morning and afternoon courses (1 run each). First time we are trying this.

April 15 was runoffs, update to season results to post #97

Overall was interesting to run morning and afternoon on the same course but in opposite directions x 3 runs each. Best time in morning added to afternoon. A few close competition classes and a few upsets.

I did better in the morning but could not do as well for the afternoon. Otherwise I was in the top 10 in the morning.

New season for me starts on July 15 and runs through to April 2013. New class for GTRs is Super SP (from ASP). Pax is worse for 2013 as usual so will need to make up the difference in time.

My race magnet says SSP now.

Not really. I think it is a mistake to make too many changes without learning how to drive what you have. I think it can take some time to learn what approach works best for a given driver and there is much to learn when the course changes with each event- sometimes very tight and sometimes more open with run times from 30-35 seconds to cover 0.4 miles.

If I had an unlimited budget then suspension, wheel and tires changes would all be worth considering. Since I want to keep the budget down I work with what I have and try to make everything last for more than one season. Hoosier A6 is prime for about 6-8 events then they start to age past prime. They can still do pretty well for one full season.

Even tire pressures are subject to change- since the course is always different, each tire temp can vary so pressures can be up or down. I check tire temperatures on the second run then adjust. If you do more high speed left turns then the right front gets hotter fast. After the third run of four I leave the pressures alone assuming the temperatures are pretty close for a given tire.

Your best time was better than ASP class cars- then why not drive in that class instead of Time only class?

Our region SCCA does not allow for any ride alongs during competition- it gives an advantage to the passenger.

oh i  could care less about winning a  class or anything like that i just like to see how it stacks up  raw  at the end of the day not including the   karts....most of the time there arnt many or any cars in asp
Plus I have enough mugs that say first place on them...I'm good

Our club allows passengers as long as they are registered competitors...out of 4 or 5 runs I usually have some one with me maybe twice
