I gotta add the 1911 is one of the most beautiful guns ever seen but i guess the magazine holds a maximum of 7 bullets. Shame.

Para makes a .45 ACP that holds 15 rounds.

They hold 8 rounds, one in the chamber.

STI makes what is known as a double stack 2011. They are extremely bad ass handguns.

Buckmark or Ruger Mark "insert model preferred.......III, IV, etc." pistol in 22 lr.  Great way to develop good habits.

Once that's done a couple of months down the line, I'd suggest a Smith & Wessom M&P in the caliber of your choice.

Target ? Concealed Carry ? Home defense ? Hunting ? What is your purpose for purchasing a firearm? Now you can consider a firearm to purchase.

Probably wouldn't be getting a handgun to hunt with, and the Glock 19 covers all those other bases really well, for 500 bucks.

S&W and Ruger have some very fine hunting handguns tha can take down large game ( more sporting than a rifle ). I agree with you about the Glock 19 with the exception of CCW. The 19 is too big and heavy to carry EVERYDAY in all weather conditions . For CCW alone there is no better choice than a S&W scandium snub nose chambered in 357/38 with a weight around 11.5 ounces. It can be carried EVERYDAY in all situations and we know the gun that is left in the safe the ONE time you need it is worthless. FBI stats for police shootings are over in 3 shots and occur within 7 feet on average, and Speer makes some realy good short barrel ammo in 357 and 38+P that expand very good. BTW the snub nose will always go bang and no external hammer to snag, you can shoot through your pocket if needed.

the 2011 looks a bit boxy. A $500 glock will cost me around atleast $3000 after taxes. So expensive to own a US made pistol.

I guess i will settle for a Chinese made CF-98.

The factory is in Austria but they are assembled and test fired in Georgia.

I am fairly pleased with my Glocks... my first and second (hand) gun purchases were Glock. Then I finally made myself try a new brand so I bought a Sig. I think next I'll get a P226 with AAC Ti-Rant 9. Because shooting only .45 and .40 is less than optimal (unless you are actually trying to murder someone).
