Man, it's amazing how much they were downplaying the GTR. I'm a GM guy at heart, but I'm not ignorant, GTR v. ZR1 are two completely different leagues. Hotter weather and the ZL1 does better, yea right, half a lap and that blower is heat soaked and I bet it loses 60hp. Heck, after 3 runs on the dyno with a couple minute breaks in between my CTS-V lost 30rwhp. Same dyno, same breaks, my GTR made between 735 and 744whp. The video should be entitled: we are bias toward the ZL1 and bitter it's not as good. What do you expect with the R&D involved in each?! /rant.

EDIT: Ronin, I have to ask, if you had to own one, SL, 458, or GTR? No Road and Track style bias lol.

I'm really getting sick and tired of journalists using the video game references and how the GTR drives itself.

can they be a little more creative?

The ___________ is more comfortable, more involving to drive but slower than the GT-R?

Insert name of any car under the sun. Nice review, if the video is any indications we should probably stay away from ZL-1s on the street and tracks, seems like it is capable to only drives sideways.

PS: Funny how the GT-R is used as the benchmark these days instead of the all mighty Porsche 911.

GT-R vs ZR1, ZL1,  M5, 991 S........... Seems like journalists can't wait to find excuses to compare it to everything under the sun.

Unbelievable he thought he could still get away with that 5 years after the car was launched. Lazy, pathetic "journalism".
Try driving it properly, with VDC Off and tell me it "drives itself".

Having said that, I love the look and sound of the ZL1. Makes the GT-R look very boring.

Rear quarter shot of that ZL1 in the article is very nice. Looks the business. And I have to agree, the textual content in that article is very poor, repeating those endless clichés as if they were devoid of any new ideas. But the comparison is actually very interesting, showing the massive performance difference for two cars with essentially the same power to weight ratios. GT-R's design concept is thus effectively highlighted as being truly superior. Funny thing too about the article's estimated price for the GT-R, as they were woefully too low. But I would sure like to take a ZL1 for a spin!

The video was obviously trying to make the ZL-1 look good even though its no where near the GT-Rs performance.

+1...I just think that the "detached" and "uninvolved" driving experience jargon most US journalist use just means that they don't know how to drive it hard sans the VDC.  Try driving these 2 cars in less than perfect conditions and I would take the GTR over the sideways ZL1 any day.  I'll probably still be living at the end of the day in the GTR vs the ZL1, too.

Learn how to drive the GTR and you can drift with the best of them.
Plus if i put the GTR in manual 4 or 5th gear i can wind through mountain roads with no gear change and plenty of power.

GTR #1. Bucket of bolts, traded for 2012 black edition.

GTR #2 ---2009 RED - Titeck spoiler and other carbon fiber parts.
This car is a tank. Has never had a problem in 4 years.

GTR #3---2012 Blue black edition. Holy shit I love this car.

sounds to me like R&T was paid off. sounds like ignorance is bliss. the gtr is the new yardstick to compare to but this is just wrong.
R&T have had good gt-r reviews, i dont see why they are making it seem like a playstation unlike the other reviewers.

I honestly felt the EXACT same way after watching too.

I may have to stick with Motor Trend. I prefer the reviews from Randy Pobst than most of these knuckleheads.

Video game , drives itself.
Thats where the bias becomes unmistakeable in that neither can possibly reflect reality. The disrespectful value judgement is evident.  It may be less involving, but it is not professional to ding competence. The ZL may be less involving than riding a shopping cart down half dome, right? But that in no way dings the camaro for being better than a shopping cart.
Back in the day, R&T was the more objective of the mags. Sad to see this :
" Sigh, if you really want to go fast on track, sigh, well you might have to get this boring old rice burner. Sigh..."

Should duct tape this dork to a buckaroo rodeo machine, make sure he gets his dose of involvement

"Video game , drives itself."  Funny thing, I let the car drive itself the other day and for some strange reason it kept going straight and not making the turns, Is there something wrong with my car?

One of the things I love so much about our GTRs. Pick a gear and go have fun.
