Brake job labor cost at a dealer?

Typically it's 4hrs @ 90. the 6hrs comes into play when we have to assemble hats, bleed, etc.


Four hours at $90 CHARGE is reasonable to make sure the job is done perfectly well, but I certainly don't think your techs are really taking four hours. That is reasonable at $90 per corner.

Disassembly and reassembly of hats is indeed tedious, so if that's what you mean by taking that long okay, and I take any meanness I projected back. But, if at $100/hour, 6 hours for a rotor/pad changeout and a brake bleed (without hats) seems excessive.

I just did all 4 of mine in 40 min. brake pad swap only. would of been 30 min but i couldn't get to the center jack point on the front

super easy to change.

Just doing pads is a lot easier than doing a full on brake job. This car is a little different. There are a few more bolts than your regular caliper bolts you need to take off especially in the fronts. I think it took me about 1hr a corner and then add on the procedure to lift the car with floor jacks and jackstands. Bleeding would be atleast another hour. so 6 hours doesn't seem too off to me.

The removing of the calipers I believe is the most time consuming....

an hour per side with hats.
2.5/hr with bleed, rotors -no hat change
hour for pad only swap.
would seem like a fair deal in my mind, but i'm a very efficient wrench-er,

shops can make up time because of the use of lifts, air tools and efficiency. If a shop tried to charge me 6 hours for a brake job, i would laugh at them turn around and walk out laughing as i went to my car.

Two bolts, 10 mm hex driver. Unless you don't have strength/torque to do it, or if it's your first time, it takes very little time. Maybe 10 min max. First timers, 30 getting down the details.

hmmmm just went to my shop to see how many hours of labor itll take to swap in steel braided lines, possibly resurfacing my rotors, pads, and new fluids. they said 3 hours tops. but should be finished in 2-2.5 hours. the bleeding was the longest at around 1 hour by itself. lets hope they keep to the timeline next week.

At my dealership, we charge 2 hours per axle so 4 hours is fair in my book, although us technically inclined people know it doesn't take that long, its not only about the physical time it takes.

I pay them hourly. I find they work more carefully when I do it this way as opposed to them slapping something together in a couple hours so they can get "something for nothing."

I do it with my friends. It takes about 3 hours to do all 4 rotors and pads. Also if you just daily drive the car you do not need to change to stainless steel brake lines and depending on your mileage and look of your rotors you shouldn't need rotors either.

1000% agree, but if you're going to track it, I'd suggest at least the later Nissan lines. Somebody on here who has upgraded to stainless will have some laying around.

FML!!!! There's always something to be upgraded on my 09. Thanks for the info Shawn. I had had no clue about the brake lines being updated on later models. Only makes sense as the car evolves I guess.
