Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign deliveries to begin in late 2020

YOKOHAMA, Japan – The first customer model of the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign will go on display at the Geneva Motor Show* in March, before deliveries of the limited-edition car begin in late 2020.
Before then, fans can see the prototype model in locations throughout Japan, including at the 2019 NISMO Festival this Sunday.
Customer demand for the production version of the car has been strong, with a significant number of deposits already taken, and customers across the globe are in the process of selecting personal specifications for their vehicles. That will make the already limited car — of which only 50 will be produced — even more attractive to collectors. A limited number of reservations for the remaining models are still available.
In Japan, customers can now purchase a GT-R50 by Italdesign through SCI Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of VT Holdings, which has been appointed official importer and distributor for these exclusive cars in the country.
“Our customers have relished the personalized experience provided by Italdesign, who have a long tradition in the exclusive field of ultra-rare, bespoke high-performance vehicles,” said Bob Laishley, global sports car program director at Nissan. “Their experience with the GT-R50 has been incredible and I can say first-hand that each car will certainly be a standalone masterpiece.”
Subject to certification and homologation in all relevant markets, customers can expect to get behind the wheel of their personalized Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign sometime between late 2020 and the end of 2021. Powering each GT-R50 by Italdesign is a NISMO-tuned 720 PS hand-built 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6.
Nissan collaborated with Turin, Italy-based Italdesign to create the model, based on the latest Nissan GT-R NISMO, in commemoration of the 50th anniversaries of the GT-R in 2019 and Italdesign in 2018.
The prototype vehicle, which debuted in June 2018, will be on display at this year’s NISMO Festival, held at Fuji Speedway on Dec. 8. The model will subsequently be shown at Nissan Crossing in Tokyo’s Ginza district in December, and at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January.

The 2020 GT-R NISMO is more GT-R than ever before – it's the ultimate performance super sports car that provides an exhilarating experience for virtually everyone. New race-proven turbochargers, improved gearbox shift control, lighter components, reduced overall mass and upgrades to the brakes, wheels and tires contribute to a 2.5-second reduction in lap time around Nissan's development track. About the 2020 GT-R Track Edition
While in previous years the GT-R Track Edition featured the 565-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 24-valve twin-turbocharged engine from the GT-R Premium grade, for 2020 the engine is borrowed from the famed GT-R NISMO and offers a full 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque3.
In addition to the engine, key GT-R Track Edition performance enhancements (versus the GT-R Premium) include additional adhesive bonding of the body structure, a NISMO-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension, reduced weight and additional roll stiffness, wide 20-inch NISMO forged aluminum-alloy wheels with NISMO-spec tires and dry carbon-fiber rear spoiler4. Inside, the Track Edition interior includes a unique red and black color treatment with high-grip, motorsports-inspired Recaro® seats.

"The 2020 GT-R NISMO has evolved into a balanced, yet extreme, performance car," said Hiroshi Tamura, chief product specialist for the GT-R. "Pursuing driving pleasure is the most important concept behind GT-R, and the new NISMO's performance suggest it is a car that belongs on the race track – but is also at home on the open road."
Designed for a pro, built for everyone
For the 2020 GT-R NISMO, Nissan engineers set out to take race-proven technology and make it accessible and comfortable for drivers of all skill levels. Vehicle control and predictability were critical in achieving this; thus, they adopted the theme "absolute street and track performance" when developing the car.
Setting the most potent and exclusive of all GT-Rs apart from the rest of the pack is the amount of carbon fiber found throughout the car, including the front and rear bumpers, front fenders, hood, roof, side sill covers, trunk and rear spoiler. Each component has been improved to cut weight, increase downforce and enhance aerodynamics. These exterior parts alone have resulted in a total weight savings of 23 pounds (10.5 kilograms), in addition to nearly 44 pounds (20 kilograms) of reductions from other upgrades and new components.
The front fenders now resemble those on the GT3 GT-R. Scalloped vents help funnel hot air away from the engine bay and provide exceptional downforce onto the front tires, without additional drag. They also improve aerodynamics by smoothing out airflow along the body, with special consideration given to avoiding the rear spoiler, promoting high-speed stability. A new compression process gives the carbon fiber roof a lightweight, tight weave.
The 2020 GT-R NISMO's exclusive 20-inch RAYS forged aluminum wheels are lighter than before and incorporate a nine-spoke design that enhances their rigidity. Newly designed Dunlop tires, with a wider tread and fewer grooves, increase the contact patch by 11%. This results in higher cornering force, enhanced steering response and improved rolling resistance when compared with the previous model.
Inside the cabin, exclusive GT-R NISMO front seats are designed to focus on holding the shoulder blades and lower body points, giving the driver a better sense of car and body as one.
Transcending perfection
Few cars possess the GT-R's driving performance. For the 2020 model, the engineers sought to improve what was essentially already mechanical perfection, "making small tweaks to squeeze out as much as possible from the engine and chassis," according to Tamura.
Nissan's 3.8-liter V6 24-valve twin-turbocharged engine – each handcrafted by its own takumi technician – remains the heart of the GT-R's drivetrain. The car's revised 6-speed dual-clutch transmission features a refined "R mode" that not only shifts faster but also optimizes gear selection, especially when exiting corners. This enhances the feeling of acceleration and deceleration on both road and track. The adaptive shift control has also been programmed to adapt shift schedules to the user's driving style. This makes it possible to drive in a law-abiding way on public roads and in a highly spirited fashion on a race track, without manually changing modes (in A mode / R mode).
The car's exhaust note is the product of a revised titanium exhaust with handcrafted burnished blue tips.
When it comes to handling, the 2020 GT-R NISMO has few equals. Its updated suspension tuning improves cornering stability, with enhanced yaw rate response and smoother ride quality. The steering features better linearity and precision than ever, requiring minimal corrections at speeds of up to 186 mph (300 kph).
The absolute performance theme is also fittingly reflected by the addition of a carbon ceramic brake system. The combination of the Brembo carbon ceramic rotors — enlarged to 16.1 inches (410 mm) up front and 15.3 (390 mm) at the rear — and Brembo calipers significantly improve reaction time, durability and overall stopping performance. At the same time, their lightweight nature decreases the unsprung weight on each wheel, allowing the car to trace the intended driving line in a highly precise manner. The carbon and silica carbide structure of the rotors is nearly as hard as diamonds. When paired with the new material of the brake pads, they generate more friction for an enhanced controlled feeling in all types of braking situations. The new materials also help decrease braking footwork by shortening the brake pedal stroke. The newly developed high-rigidity calipers are dipped in bright yellow paint that can resist temperatures of more than 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit (1,000 degrees Celsius).
"We have built the 2020 GT-R NISMO for our customers to be the ultimate track and street vehicle," Tamura said. "It is about total balance management, not just chasing power figures. The new NISMO has been brought to a new level, with enhanced engine, handling, braking and aerodynamics."

NEW YORK – Few vehicles in the world can be instantly identified by just three letters. But to motoring enthusiasts everywhere, "GT-R" has become synonymous with excitement, high performance and unparalleled refinement.
Making its debut at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, the 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition takes the nameplate to a level that was unimaginable when it was first introduced 50 years ago. To celebrate the half-century of the GT-R, engineers challenged themselves to find undiscovered performance potential while still making sure the car can be enjoyed by drivers at any level.

A 50th Anniversary Celebration

Orders Begin for Nissan GT-R50

YOKOHAMA, Japan (Dec. 7, 2018) – Nissan has confirmed the production design of the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign – the ultimate expression of the GT-R – and has opened the official order books for the 50-vehicle limited run.

The car’s exterior is virtually unchanged from the prototype first shown in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. Pricing of the NISMO-tuned 720PS GT-R by Italdesign will start at 990,000 euros before taxes and options.
Nissan collaborated with Turin, Italy-based Italdesign to create the model, based on the latest Nissan GT-R NISMO, in commemoration of the 50th anniversaries of the GT-R in 2019 and Italdesign in 2018. While the prototype vehicle was finished in a special gray with gold accents, customers will be able to specify their preferred color combinations for the production version. They also will be able to choose interior colors and packages.1
In addition to Goodwood, the GT-R50 prototype has made appearances at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in the U.S. and Nissan Crossing in Tokyo’s Ginza district. It will be on display at the Nissan Gallery in Yokohama from Dec. 7.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced U.S. pricing for the 2019 Nissan GT-R, which is on sale now at select Nissan dealers nationwide. The starting MSRP1 of $99,990 for the 2019 GT-R Pure model, the most affordable of the four available GT-R trim levels, remains unchanged from 2018.
The other available 2019 GT-R trim levels are the:

GT-R Premium, which includes an 11-speaker Bose® audio system, Active Noise Cancellation and Active Sound Enhancement systems, and Titanium exhaust system.

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Parts for the R33 and R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R will go on sale in Japan as the NISMO Heritage Parts program expands its support for owners of classic Nissan performance cars.
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. and Autech Japan, Inc., announced the expansion, which adds to the suite of R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R parts currently on sale. The announcement comes ahead of this weekend’s NISMO Festival, where fans can get a first look at a sampling of parts on display, along with a full list of parts available, at the Omori factory booth.
The NISMO Heritage Parts program, a multicompany joint effort, aims to enhance support for owners of Nissan performance cars by continually studying the remanufacturing and resupplying process of discontinued Skyline GT-R parts, among other models.

The program was launched last year with a catalog of nearly 80 parts for the R32 Skyline GT-R. Customers responded positively, and many requested the addition of more parts and models.

Under the expansion announced today, exterior, powertrain, electrical and various mechanical components are being made available for the R33 and R34 models. Parts are also being added for the R32 model – including not just essentials related to driving performance or vehicle inspections, but also hard-to-find components such as new weather stripping or power window switches.

The total number of available parts has doubled to about 160, making the NISMO Heritage Parts program the largest selection of parts for these models in Japan.

NISMO continues to foster a close relationship with Nissan Skyline GT-R owners. Based on their input and requests, the NISMO Heritage Parts program may continue expanding the availability of R32, R33 and R34 parts.

Nissan and Italdesign to unveil ultra-limited GT-R prototype

YOKOHAMA, Japan/TURIN, Italy – Nissan and Italdesign have created a new prototype vehicle – the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign – in their first-ever collaboration.
Based on a production 2018 Nissan GT-R NISMO model, the unique car commemorates the 50th anniversaries of both the GT-R and Italdesign and will make its debut in Europe next month.
"How often do you get to ask, 'What if we created a GT-R without limits,' and then actually get to build it?" said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan's senior vice president for global design. "This is a rare window in time when two big moments intersect: 50 years of Italdesign shaping the automotive world and 50 years of Nissan generating excitement through our iconic GT-R. So to celebrate this convergence, Nissan and Italdesign created this custom GT-R to mark 50 years of engineering leadership."
Italdesign developed, engineered and built the car. The distinctive, crisp exterior and interior designs were created by the teams at Nissan Design Europe in London and Nissan Design America.

Design at its best
Starting at the front, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign features a distinct golden inner element that stretches across almost the full width of the vehicle. The hood has a more pronounced power bulge, and the thin LED headlights stretch from the wheel arch to the lip above the outer cooling intakes
Dominating the side view, the distinctive roofline has been lowered by 54 millimeters and features a lower center section, while the slightly raised outer portions give the roof profile a muscular look. The signature GT-R "samurai blade" cooling outlets behind the front wheels have gained more prominence with a gold inlay and extends from the bottom of the doors to the shoulder line.
The rear highlights the car's wide track with taut, muscular flares around the wheels. The shoulder line tapers around the base of the rear window and draws toward the center of the trunk lid. In a dramatic fashion, the rear window line descends longer and deeper than on the standard car. Combined with more gold elements, it appears as a separate modular element of the rear structure.
The GT-R's twin round taillights have been reimagined as a separate "floating" feature with thin light rings and hollow centers, mounted so as to join the outer buttress and the central portion of the trunk structure. A large, adjustable rear wing, mounted with two uprights, completes the overall look. Custom wheels – 21 x 10 inches in front and 21 x 10.5 inches at the rear – accentuate the car's bold stance. The exterior is finished in Liquid Kinetic Gray paint with distinctive Energetic Sigma Gold anniversary accents.
Inside, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign reflects its modern, high-performance pedigree. Two different carbon fiber finishes are extensively used across the center console, instrument panel and door linings, along with black Alcantara® and fine black Italian leather on the seats. Gold accents echo the exterior treatment across the instrument panel, doors and the futuristic race car-inspired switchgear. The bespoke steering wheel's central hub and spokes are made of carbon fiber, while the rim features a flat bottom

Pure performance plus
Underneath the new shape, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is all business. Drawing on Nissan's GT3 racing experience, the NISMO organization enhanced the hand-assembled 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine to produce an estimated 720ps and 780 Nm of torque.
Changes to the power plant include optimized twin high-flow, large-diameter GT3 competition-spec turbochargers and larger intercoolers; heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and bearings; high-flow piston oil jets; revised camshaft profiles; higher-flow fuel injectors; and optimized ignition, intake and exhaust systems. A reinforced dual-clutch sequential six-speed rear transaxle and stronger differentials and drive shafts direct the power to the wheels.
A revised suspension has been developed, featuring the BILSTEIN DampTronic® I continuously adjustable damping system. For braking, the Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes feature bright red, clearly visible calipers. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, sized 255/35 R21 in the front and 285/30 R21 in the rear, add a level of grip needed to harness the engine's power.
"Although this is not the next-generation GT-R, it is an exciting celebration of two anniversaries in a provocative and creative way – wrapping one of Nissan's best engineering platforms and Japanese design with Italian coachbuilding," said Albaisa.

The current R35 platform of the Nissan GTR is now officially 10 years old! as the the 2008 Nissan GTR went on sale in Japan 10 years ago December 6th 2007. It would arrive in North America half a year later in July of 2008.

2017 NISMO Festival celebrates GT-R at Fuji Speedway

OYAMA, Japan – The 20th running of the NISMO Festival supported by Motul showcased the fan favorite Nissan GT-R and the NISMO brand in Japan yesterday with more than 28,000 fans on site and thousands more tuning into the NISMO.tv live stream on YouTube.
Along with the traditional NISMO Grand Prix race featuring entries from Super GT, Super Taikyu and Europe's Blancpain GT Series championships, the event also included a Racing GT-R Heritage Run. The Heritage Run featured 16 famous GT-Rs from Nissan's racing past dating back to the Skyline HT 2000 GT-R from the late 60s.
Other cars taking part were the Group A-spec Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, including the Calsonic version driven by NISMO legend Kazuyoshi Hoshino.
The R32 won an incredible 29 consecutive races in Japan and was recently voted by fans in the #NISMOtop20 poll on Twitter as the greatest Nissan/NISMO racecar of all time.
The 1995 and 1996 Le Mans GT-R racers were on track along with JGTC/Super GT race winners from 1998, 1999, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2017.
Nissan's 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship winning GT-R was driven by Michael Krumm, while Katsumasa Chiyo piloted the Bathurst 12 Hour-winning Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3.
Racing legends who returned to the track at the NISMO Festival included Takahashi Kunimitsu, Tsuchiya Keiichi, Hagiwara Osamu, and 1998-99 champion Erik Comas.
Other on-track events included an historic race and the Z-Challenge exhibition while road cars headed out on the Fuji Speedway circuit with more than 150 NISMO machines taking part.
The NISMO Grand Prix was won by the Motul Autech GT-R (Super GT GT500) of Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli. The No. 23 crew also scored the prize for the fastest pit stop of the race.
Off track, fans enjoyed driver interviews, autograph sessions, merchandise stores, pit stop displays plus Nissan aftermarket parts and tuner stalls.
The day's closing ceremony included a presentation to Nissan racer Mitsunori Takaboshi who clinched this year's Japanese Formula 3 championship.
"We're very thankful for the support of the fans throughout the season," said NISMO president Takao Katagiri. "Although we missed Super GT championship by mere two points, the victory at the final round gave us a clear direction of what should be done over the winter for the next season. As a new challenge, Nissan and NISMO will compete in the all-electric FIA Formula E championship which starts in December next year, and we will look forward to seeing you all again to celebrate our victories."

Following last year's significant enhancements to the iconic Nissan GT-R – which included a refreshed look inside and out and 20 additional horsepower – the changes continue for the 2018 model year with the introduction of a new GT-R Pure model, the addition of Apple CarPlay™ to NissanConnectSM with Navigation and Services, and a new black "Kuro Night" color for the Premium Interior Package.
With a starting MSRP1 of $99,990, the 2018 GT-R Pure model is designed to be the most affordable of the four GT-R trim levels. the 2018 GTR NISMO was spotted testing at Nurburgring The front fenders are covered most likely hiding vents for added downforce like GT3 cars ( and not unlike the new porsche GT3 RS)

also if you look closely you will see silver calipers and what looks like carbon rotors. This could be an updated version of the SpecV ceramic system used a few years ago that was eventually abandoned by the Nissan team for its cost and its cold temperature stopping performance

There was been talk of a RS model but without knowledge of tweaks under the hood, currently there is not enough info yet to tell if this is that or just the ever improving 2018 tweaks to the NISMO.

Nissan GT-R /C: Ultimate Remote-Control Car for Gamers

LONDON – Nissan has created the ultimate remote-control car for gamers – the Nissan GT-R /C.
Celebrating the release of Gran Turismo Sport – and marking 20 years of Nissan involvement in the Gran Turismo gaming series – the one-off project car was extensively modified to be driven entirely by a DualShock®4 controller. Gran Turismo Sport will be released in the U.S. on October 17, in Europe and Australia on October 18, and in Japan on October 19.
The GT-R /C was put through its paces by NISMO athlete and GT Academy winner Jann Mardenborough around Silverstone's famous National Circuit. Mardenborough controlled the GT-R /C from the cockpit of a helicopter. On Mardenborough's fastest lap (1:17:47), the GT-R /C averaged 76 mph/122 kph and reached a top speed of 131 mph/211 kph.

The GT-R /C is fitted with four robots that operate the steering, transmission, brakes and throttle. Six computers mounted in the rear of the car update the controls at up to 100 times a second.
The unmodified DualShock®4 connects to a micro-computer that interprets the joystick and button signals and transmits them to the GT-R /C's onboard systems. The wireless operation has a primary control range of one kilometer.
To help Mardenborough judge the vehicle's speed through the corners, a Racelogic VBOX Motorsport sensor was installed to relay speed data to a LCD display in the helicopter cockpit.
The GT-R /C is also fitted with two independent safety systems, operating on different radio frequencies, which allow two additional operators to apply full ABS braking and cut the engine in the event of the main operator losing control of the vehicle.
"This was once-in-a-lifetime, truly epic stuff," said Mardenborough. "The GT-R /C has brought my two worlds together – the virtual of gaming and the reality of motorsport – in a way I never thought possible. The response from the car when using the controller was far more engaging than I thought it would be. JLB Design has done an incredible job at making everything respond really well. Steering, acceleration and braking were all intelligently configured, allowing for controlled application so I could really get a feel through the corners and hold it steady down the fast straights. Driving a full-size, remote-control GT-R to 131 mph at Silverstone whilst chasing it down in a helicopter was an unforgettable experience. Now that's innovation that excites!"
Now racing full-time for Nissan in Japan, Mardenborough starred in the latest round of the Super GT Championship last weekend in Thailand, qualifying on the front row and setting the fastest lap of the race.
In 2018, the Nissan GT-R /C will be used in a tour of primary and secondary schools in the UK to promote future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects.

NISMO Japan Offers S1 Engine Tuning and New Aero for CBA...

NISMO unveiled an S1 engine tuning package as well as an aerodynamic body kit package for the original 2008+ CBA-R35 GTR. The Aero kit includes a new front spolier side skirts and an add on carbon wing extender. NISMO officials say these enhancements should provide comparable downforce to the factory GTR NISMO. the S1 (Street Spec) engine tune package continues the tradition seen with the RB26 motors seen on previous generations of the Skyline GTR. More details about what the engine tune and restoration will be available this fall. There are no current plans to offer this outside of Japan.

The aging champion that we first met way back in 2007 got yet another series of tweaks for 2017—this is starting to be like a Joan Rivers riff on facelifts—in order to remain relevant. The suspension on this, the middle-priced Track Edition, has been softened a bit, and the interior got a redesign and a larger touchscreen, plus some finer materials. The GT-R Premium is still cheaper at $111,685, while the 600-hp NISMO calls for $176,685. Nissan hasn’t said that it will replace the GT-R, nor has it given any indication that it will finally put this thoroughbred to pasture. In the meantime, it managed to pull this year’s fifth-fastest time, 2:53.2, though it did so while finishing at the bottom of the “really fast” class of cars.

Track Edition Finally headed to the US at NYIAS 2017

Arriving at the New York International Auto Show April 14 ,The Track Edition will finally be offered in limited quantities for the US Market for 2017. It will not be like the initial version offered in 2014. That GTR, limited to just around 160 units for 2014, and featured deleted rear seats, microfiber blue trimmed seats, Nordring tuned suspension and carbon fiber brake cooling ducts added to the front lip.

The 2018 Track Edition available this summer in the US and is currently available in Europe Japan and Canada. This GTR will be based off the Premium version and will include the Titanium Exhaust standard and all of the interior and exterior upgrades found on all 2017 models. The Suspension will be the same one found in the GTR NISMO down to the adhesive chassis bonding.

The Track Edition will also borrow the 6 spoke black NISMO branded wheels from the GTR NISMO wrapped in a bespoke Dunlop NR1 tire developed during the GTR NISMO's record setting Nurburgring run. The front wheels are 10" in diameter like the NISMO up from 9.5 so a slightly wider fender is also added.The only other exterior changes besides the wheels will be the return of the matte carbon rear spoiler previously found on the Black Edition. Speaking of which the 2018 Track Edition features red accented stitch, door handles, and Recaro seats just like the now retired (for the US Market)Black Edition did. Unlike other markets, the only way to get this Recaro interior in the US is on the actual Track Edition model.

The Track Edition will lean more toward the "R" axis than the "GT" found on the Premium. However it will retain the 565hp rating of the 2018 GTR as it will not feature the larger turbos of its bigger brother thus still sitting under the GTR NISMO as the ultimate track day GTR. the Track Edition while lacking the 35 extra horsepower and down force producing carbon fiber bodykit of the GTR NISMO itself, customers will be able to get some of that NISMO experience with an estimated $50K in savings to their wallet
