What's your setup ?
If your just FBO stay on MAF, don't see any advantage.

Old setups : Alpha 9 w/ AMS 3.8, GTX3582R Gen II w/ AMS 4.1 billet crank, GTX3582R Gen II w/ AMS 4.0 big bore billet crank and of course FBO E85.

STM said they would only tune with an SD kit on mine. Are you running it or MAF?Definitely not on Cobb. Need to run through MAF sensors as pass through. Probably sand on Ecutek.

Not trying to have an issue passing emissions.

Im currently FBO on a SD tune with cobb and i pass nys emissions. Had my tuner make me a MAF map and running o2 fowlers. When the time comes i swap to the MAF map and baby the car to inspection. Pass then swap maps. No problems.

Surprised, no need for SD on FBO E85, I passed NYS inspection easy on MAF. My problem with the A9 is I don't have MAF sensors I can use as a pass through for inspection only.
Khary's was on MAF and ran 9.9's @ 138 and also passed inspection.

Sent emery an email. Might sell my SD kit if thats the case. Not sure why he told me SD only.

No. the purpose of the SD kit is to relocate the intake air temperature sensor to post-charge/intercooler which allows for more accurate representation of the temp at the throttle bodies. A side effect of this is that it simplifies the tuning process because airflow is adjusted via 1 table (the volumetric efficiency table) as opposed to a combination of several to correctly represent the MAF and pipe size characteristics.I think SD kit helps hold boost better to redline. In other words, once boost hits it's peak..it doesn't taper off as much. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Other benefits of SD include the ability to run Vent-To-Atmosphere BOVs without issue as the volume of air is accounted for, and also if you blow an intercooler pipe the car will run normally in vacuum, whereas on MAF it won't.

They definitely can be, assuming the tuner takes the time to make sure the VE table is smooth in the drivability areas. This is exactly what I heard people tell me as well. I want to pass emissions with a SD tune. SD tune cars tend to be smoother or maybe it's just my imagination.

MAF tunes also suffer on drivability when the airflow is erratic, such as when the car has a big cam or in transitional areas such as tip in or quick liftoff and re-throttle, when the cooling fans kick on or off, or when the piping design creates turbulence.
I remember back in the day my Evo 8 with a big HKS suction open intake would stall at a stop light if something big revved it's engine next to me haha.
For a bit of legalese... On the subject of emissions passing... people need to remember that products like aftermarket tunes, downpipes, etc are installed for off-road use and the responsibility to pass emissions with these modifications is your own. I've been to shops where the tuners refuse to disable codes, etc., to protect themselves from the significant liability an EPA inspection could bring.
On another note, depending on your local criteria for readiness testing quantity pass/fail, the presence of flex fuel can also cause a fail because it typically disables the secondary air injection monitor.
Most of the Cobb cars that I've seen fail are typically because the injector settings aren't quite perfect and long term fuel trims aren't working as well as they should (or at all), which is a criteria for test readiness, and/or the tests won't ready if the injector scalar is over 1000cc.

Reviving thread... this is good info right here -- thanks! Did a quick check with my scanner for readiness after I got my car home from Switzer (SD tuned) and saw that I had 3 not ready.
