April 1st saw the Japanese market unveiling for the 2017 GTR. In past years the US market would be one model year designation ahead of the rest of the world. This seems to have changed with the JDM GTR being now labeled a 2017 meaning there was no MY16 for Japan. At the conference Hiroshi Tamura gave a technical rundown of the new GTR. He explained the new aerodynamics of the 2017 highlighting that many of the improvements were taken from the GTR NISMO and applied to this new 2017 GTR. He explained the need for a larger grill area to offset the extra power out put and a more refined and smoother shift drivers can expect from the transmission.

The biggest news of the unveiling is the glimpse of 6 available interior colors. Up until now we have only seen the Rakuda Tan option but now we can report in addition to the Amber and Ivory mentioned in the press releases, the Recaro black/red tow tone seats will be making a return.

In the past Japan has featured different trim levels and options so we cannot say if the US market will need to wait for the proper track edition to have this interior option. For what its worth the Blue GTR on display with said interior also featured a matte carbon wing like we have seen on the Black Edition in the past. The US market will not receive a Black Edition trim for 2017 but instead a Pure, Premium and Track followed by the NISMO very late in the year. We now expect the Pure edition to feature the carry over black with insert seat the GTR has had since 2012. The Premium will feature the semi aniline interior in 4 colors including an all new Black.
