I never park crooked or take up more than one spot as I think it entices people to mess with your car and you look like a giant douche. I always park very far away as I don't mind the exercise and I will park near another nice car as I know they won't ding my door and I am mindful of the same. After my 40 something years on this earth I finally caught one of those idiots in a junker parking too close to my car 25 yards away from any other cars and 100's of empty spots around. 90's something F-150, I'm backed in and he pulled in so we were drivers door to drivers door. As I walk out of Home Depot I can see my car way off in the distance, and I could tell, even from that far away, that some dick-hole parked almost mirror to mirror. There is a guy about 20 feet in front of me and after walking a bit more I realize this idiot is heading for the spot where we are parked. I walk faster so I get closer to him, he gets to his truck and has to squeeze between my GTR and his truck so he can get to his door. I stand there staring at him as he opens it and tries to squeeze in. He shuts the door and I walk up to his open window and notice that, what I assume is his wife, is sitting in the passenger seat. I said, "What posses a full grown man to do something like this on purpose? Did I offend you in some way by parking at the ass end of the parking lot?" He and his wife both stared straight ahead and pretended not to see me. Crazy, just a normal, 40 something year old dude like me.
I'm glad the situation didn't escalate, because anyone can feel threatened, and retaliate in unknown ways, even in cases like this where the person was clearly trying to provoke a reaction. Granted, he probably didn't count on you being around and questioning you about parking right next to him. He probably just wanted to imagine how upset you were after seeing his pick 'em up truck right next to yours in the middle of no where. In my own, similar, situation, I was careful not to be confrontational when asking the driver of the car that parked right next to mine why he did so with so many empty parking spaces, and much closer to the building. It was presented as a, hey, I'm just curious, type of question. I know not to provoke people if I can, because I've had one driver pull out a pistol and put it in my face (happened long ago, and all I was doing was riding my bike on the side of the road, and he didn't feel bikes belonged there). I can still remember the end of the barrel pushing my nose in, and I could see all the rounds in the revolver. That was almost 50 years ago, so I can only imagine how people are that much more on edge.
