I agree with Wicked.   Also Im not bothered as much as some by the questions as I feel you do have some genuinely new people to the platform who are inexperienced. I know there are 100 midpipe advice threads but at the same time I wouldnt want to sound unwelcoming to a new member who wanted to start a dialogue on that as their first post.  Also we encourage participation of 25 posts to  access the member marketplace.  those two aspects together do create a bit of repetition in posts. so I get both sides and honestly most everything at this point has been covered somewhere on here the last 10 years.  So there just needs to be a balance found no doubt.  Our search software isnt the greatest but even googling the question with the word GTRLIFE nets some decent results so there is a way to get the answers.

^ +1, I'm a mod on g35driver and I can tell you it was / is much worse there.  But everyone has to start somewhere so as long as mods combine or close redundant threads its not that bad.

I agree on the search function though.  g35driver was terrible until they fixed the search engine.  the one on here leaves a lot to be desired, but as MC noted, putting "site=gtrlife.com/forums" at the end of a google search does the trick.

The "we all start somewhere" is cool and all but I guess I assumed, wrongly, that this wouldn't be the norm on a GTR forum. Its all over the place. Coming from multiple supras and being on supraforums for over 10 years, getting jumped on over stupid questions keeps the majority of those types of threads in check there. Though it still does happen from time to time. Sometimes I feel Im scrolling through a honda forum, though I see GTR plastered everywhere, with people asking about neons, gaudy bodykits, big ass wings an shitty wraps etc...

But, I am thankful for the knowledge that is also found here and the awesome threads I've used to work on my own GTR :)...I'd have more broken parts and be lost on somethings if it wasn't for this site. Thank you!

The entire Moderating team is working hard to clean things up. Takes time though.

If you ever find yourself sitting behind the wheel of another GTR, make sure you post it up for us.

Cheers buddy

We all started somewhere. But yes some people are just too lazy to search.

Searches work, but they can be clumsy if different (but related) words are used.  This can also work against those here for which English isn't their most proficient language.

As a former Administrator on a another (non-car) Site, I always tried to be helpful to noobies, no matter how often the same questions had been asked.

I think some of the focus for MODS on successful Sites (Like this One!) is to prevent Scamming first of all, and secondly to deal with misinformation (albeit that it was presented innocently).

My opinion...

I'd much rather people start discussion posts and actively engage the community than...

post 18: Welcome!

post 19: just trying to get 25

post 20: lol

post 23: great

you get the point. If a new member makes a midpipe post that's a blessing compared to the artificial bumping without actually wishing to engage and participate in the community.

Definitely agree but as a newer member it isn't necessarily the easiest to engage. The 25 post count was a hinderance to me in the beginning because I just wanted to post in WTB. I didn't want to do exactly what you mentioned above, so obviously I read up on everything someone would need to know when wanting to buy, or relating to a GTR up to FBO. (Yes literally everything has been covered for anyone who knows how to search.) Problem is even when you do contribute something constructive, people will sometimes go out of their way to say your statements aren't valid because you don't even own a GTR. It's quite comical.

It's true.

However, it is quite easy to reach 25 posts if you check out some build journals in the media section, make a intro post in your regional sub-forum, or just voice an opinion here and there on one of the opinion-based or life-discussion threads like *what did you do with your GTR today* or *your favorite exhaust sound* thread, etc.

A ton of people want to benefit from the forum platform for personal gain - reaching a huge audience to sell their parts quickly or buy something at a good deal, yet do not wish to give back to the community through interaction or better yet, avoid the community aspect of ownership completely. "just lemme buy my sh~t and log out" is not the type of community that this forum envisions.

You bet! Cheers to you, MC and the OG owners as well! Wish you all the best. (I'll be sticking around on the other forums.)

This new scene of owners/potential buyers is one of the reasons i was turned me off doing a full build on mine. Also seeing a lot of the OG's selling off made me think about a different direction.

After 10 years this was bound to happen since Nissan hasn't discontinued the R35. The market is over-saturated sadly and the prices/buyer demographic strongly reflects it IMO.  Definitely will keep an eye out for the R36.

Much love.

Dan
