California is to ban all gasoline / diesel cars by 2035.

California is a huge market for any auto manufacturer. There are rumors that R36 might get released in 5-10 years. Knowing this now, I wonder if Nissan will abandon their plan for a hybrid R36 and just focus on electric?

That's still 15 years away. A lot of things can happen in that time including a challenge to that legislation by auto manufacturers and other big money concerns. California may be a big market but it's a drop in the bucket in the totality of things so I doubt Nissan is going to change their plans for a future GT-R just because of this. Note that Europe as a whole is a much bigger market than California by itself (15 million in 2019 versus 1.9 million for Cali) and even then Nissan has made it clear that the 400Z won't be released there due to their current regulations - so obviously Nissan isn't exactly chasing every single market with its offerings.

There are far more immediately pressing things that will dictate Nissan's strategy going forward like the general trend to electrification, whether they can recover their lost sales volume, the continuing trend towards crossovers and SUVs while sports cars and sedans become ever more niche, and of course, how much money they have to spend on an expensive vanity project like a new GT-R when their lineup as a whole is in dire need of a revamp.

Nissan as well as most automakers are headed towards electrification anyway so it wouldn't be a surprise if a future GT-R were electric - I just doubt California would drive them to do it any sooner than other factors will.

Yep. Almost 100% certain this will get struck down long before it would become active.

Thing is there are a ton of long term problems mass adoption to electric brings. Not only a stressed supply of electricity but what do do with all these old batteries which are much worse for environment than a fossil fuel end of life propulsion system. I see it in mass transit all the time. Everyone wants to switch to electric, but infrastructure can barely supply population today in many areas - look at the brown outs suffered in California.
Cicio Performance billet Crank 4.1 w/ CP billet pistons, Zenith R turbos, Cicio wet sump oling upgrade, flex fuel, ETS mid, down pipe, race FMIC, STM titanium axle back, ID2000s, Shep One K with drop gears, DS Axles, Volk Saga 18 10/12 (MT ET Streets), Advan GT Premium 20 R888. 1450+ hp / 1210+ tq

Old setups : more AMS motors than anyone I know - Alpha 9 w/ AMS 3.8, GTX3582R Gen II w/ AMS 4.1 billet crank, GTX3582R Gen II w/ AMS 4.0 big bore billet crank and of course FBO E85.

It's only an executive order.  Another governor can write another one cancelling it.  Who knows if there will ever be an intelligent governor elected here again.

But there is a move to recall Newsom at this point and this will only make it stronger.  People are getting fed up with all this stuff here.

Utah looks good to me.  I can work there, register my cars there and come back here whenever I want.

This event is 15 years away and only affects  NEW CAR SALES...  the world is not ready for all electric ......... Our transmission lines are not ready to move the power and we don't have generation capacity to even produce this power................. I really don't think this will happen .......... OH and I don't really care , too old to affect me...

Dear Californians thinking of moving out,

Colorado, Nevada, and Utah are wonderful states! I'm sure you would be more than happy there!

+1 some counties in CO are already lost causes. Would definitely stay out of metro Denver. That place is already San Fran v2.0. But honestly, feel like the developed parts of CO probably have a decade left before they get ruined too. Next stop is probably ABQ if Douglas County gets overrun, too.

On topic -- the transition to non-ICE is going to take a while. The adoption rate of EVs is still <5% of all car sales worldwide. Outside of certain metro areas, infrastructure is still not in place for refueling/recharging whether it be EV, hydrogen, or other alternative fuels. Moving out of CA has been an eye opener of how fast (slow) the rest of the country adopts bleeding edge technologies. Most people don't like to bleed and leave that up to the folks in CA. Finding level 2 chargers east of Vegas is not an easy task and not all areas have mild climates year round. Cold weather will kill EV range by ~30% so with current range of EVs, it might still be too early in the EV life cycle for mass adoption outside of certain regions. Rivian has said CO is one of its primary markets for its trucks and SUVs so it'll be interesting to see how well their lineup handles the cold and is received/adopted by the natives out here.

If i'm moving out of Cali cuz I hate the crap here, why would I bring the crap to CO?

Or anywhere else for that matter? If I like Cali, the people, the politics, the crap, I would stay.
