Hey guys, got called out by an Aventador SV for a drag race lol. I've never taken my car to drag before, or launched my car post going FBO (yes, super careful on my trans/clutch & worried to damage it).  but since it's an SV.. I might just do it!! I need a couple of advice.

I switched from 93oct to 95 Ron (moved back overseas) on 93 was pushing 603whp/605wtq.. on 95Ron it was an e-tune no dyno, but with this bad gas tuner said it's prob around 540/540. Anyways.. questions on:

1) With these power levels...IS IT SAFE on my stock motor/trans?? worth launching first time??

2) Launch settings-Auto: should I go RCR? (I'm on Pirelli Pzero, worried for too much wheelspin if I go VDC off..maybe?)

3) RPM Launch: 3,200-3,600rpms is correct? Is there a setting to lock at a specific RPM? Custom tune on COBB but don't know what LC setting I have or if i even have one done by tuner (will ask)

4) Tire Pressure: Pzero 285/295 - should I lower to 25 PSI all around?

any other tips??or questions to ask my tuner?? thanks guys

My opinion is that it's fine to launch on stock trans at that power level. I would suggest going to do a launch or two prior to the actual race, though.

Settings are going to depend on ambient temps, road surface, tyre pressures. (I don't know what is good for P Zeros). I would go RCR but others may disagree...

Hey brother, how you been ?? No worries with launching it. 25-26psi cold should be fine. Should be just enough to keep the TPMS light off. I’d start at 4100 and do a couple test hits before your race. May find need to move to 3800/3900 for the pzero. Throw some R888 and dead hook at 4100 on the street. If you have a draggy, check your 60’ and optimize that. Try to dial it in on the same surface - concrete, asphalt, etc as well as temps. You’ll make more power at night, etc. Good luck and post the video.

Launching has always been a fear of mine as well. I remember hearing a ton of issues early on with the GTRs. I think they got everything ironed out in like 2014 (if memory serves right). Can anyone confirm?

LC4 launch control really fixed things, also changed the logic on the DBAs. LC1 didn’t allow for any cool down and LC2 was basically no launch control. CBA and DBA have SLIGHTLY different traction controls. They are both contained in the ABS pump under the hood. Both DBA and CBA have transmission programming that helps with both modules (power pull, etc.) The DBA unit also helped smooth things out, especially on a road course. The CBA unit had some buggy code in it, and held the car back way too much, especially downhill.

It is important that you know that you can NOT launch unless your transmission temperature is 140 degrees or higher.  Also, that unless it has been changed by your tuner, you are limited to 4 launches...then a "re-set" is required by driving a mile or so.

Drag-racers know to keep the weight as low as possible; 1/4 tank of gas, extraneous weight removed, etc.

i've launched mine a few times before going FBO.. "post FBO" i honestly didn't want to risk damaging anything, the GTR was my daily and didn't want to end up car-less and broke from repairing trans lol

Regarding "redline the sh*# out of it in manual mode" my C800 package included a trans map that will automatically shift at redline while in manual mode. Jan said this would be the fastest way to go vs miss timing your shifts.

This C800 package is sounding better every time someone talks more about it and give more details of the tune setup .

Do you have a ECUTEK or Cobb?

Yup, one less thing to worry about if you're launching your car.

Set your switches accordingly:

Trans: R

Suspension: depending on the surface

VC: OFF

@bi9guns - makes life so much easier doesn’t it? Cobb calls it autoshift - just paddle whatever gear you like and mash the gas. Coupled with boost by gear and it’s a rollers dream situation. Ecutek, not sure what it’s called. Just steer and waive if you like.
