Hi All,
I'm based out of Wisconsin and I just wanted to introduce my first product, give the back story about it, and answer any questions folks might have! They are lighted door sill guards! Currently looking for 2 more people for a group buy! (See below)
Why I decided to make it?
I've always loved lighted door sill guards! I think they are a tasteful mod of your car's interior first impression opposed to doing colored door lights or those tacky logo puddle lights.
I did a lighted door sill project on a previous car and have been getting repeated compliments over the last couple years. So when I got my GT-R, lighted door sills were definitely on my mod to do list! Unfortunately, the only options were a GT-R OEM fit one for +$1,000 that looked great or the crappy generic fit ones on Ebay for like $100...
So I set off to make a product of my own that was an OEM fit, retained the OEM emblem, looked great, and had plenty of light.
The Process
The OEM factory door sill guards are the base this product is built on. It took months of design work on the computer then ordering and testing different materials to get where I am at. I’m excited for the final product! Everything is hand assembled and put together (by me).
The Product
For the lighting source I decided to use electroluminescent (EL) light instead of LEDs. I played around with both and honestly I would have liked to do LEDs because they are cheaper but the LEDs couldn’t beat the look of the EL light! It’s hard to tell from the pictures/video but the EL light is perfectly diffused and even. It’s not overly bright or unevenly distributed. It’s a must see in person thing if you haven’t seen it before.
Everything is finished with 3M brand carbon fiber vinyl. At first I was worried about scuffing and durability, but I’ve had a similar set up in another vehicle for going on 3 years with no issues. It even stood up to Wisconsin winters with snow and salt!
The final thing that always bothered me about aftermarket products is the crappy install instructions (if any). I wanted to do just the opposite, so I’ll have video and written instructions along with being available to troubleshoot things 1 on 1!
Anyways, below I have some pics of the R&D process and random other pictures!
I would love to hear feedback and answer any questions folks have!
**** January 13th **** Group buy possible ****
Thank you for the positive feedback everyone. I have all my pricing on my website at www.h2autodesigns.com.
The price is $575 if you send back your OEM sill (there's $200 refundable core fee that ).
I'd love to do a group buy. I could do $100 off each one if 5 people wanted to buy it!
