GTR logo comes on and then freezes for awhile and then displays the " HDD not working, visit dealer" screen... any quick fix ideas before I have my dealer look at it?

I suggest a CTRL ALT DEL.

Disconnect the battery completely for a few minutes. Then retry.

My only $0.02

If it's truly a hard drive, it might help.

It can be fixed but it's quite a task.

The hard drive can be replaced within a few hours but requires removal of the entire unit and have it disassembled, it is a little tricky at that point.
Buy a Toshiba MK3050 GAC (stock drive) or even the MK8050 GAC for a massive upgrade in music storage. (30gb v's 80gb))

I can make a copy of the U.S menu on cd with the partitions in place for you to restore on your new drive.
I previously tried a U.S english drive in a JDM car with no success.

Pm me if you want to try it.

Why do you have to worry how much it costs, shouldnt it be under warranty? Its not a tranny or engine for nissan to b!tch about

Shalux, you have to raise a stink about this! Your mods in no way should effect the MFD/NAV unit. Bring up the Magnusson warranty act. Talk to the regional Nissan Rep or call the GT-R hotline. I know you are in the industry so Im sure you would know the avenues to use.

Did you splice into the MFD unit to run any electrical items? just asking...

If you haven't modified the MFD/NAV/HDD in any way, they will fix it.

I know there is a spliced wire somewhere (knock sensor?) but not affecting the MFD.... or anywhere close, same with the EVC which is hooked to the cigarette lighter and a vaccum line

It will fix everything.

Gauges, Audio, Nav etc are all on that drive.
You could also remove the drive and do a HDD recovery and put it on a new drive.

According to courtesy parts, they are under $5k for a new unit or you could PM [email protected] who is parting out a entire car, it has one.
If you try to repair it, the drives are $40 and up for a Toshiba automotive drive.

Dude..........my 2 cents............go to another dealership..........that dealer is full of shit......or most likely they just have no fucking clue......

If you haven't touched the MFD, warranty should cover it........esp if you did not tap into the electrical of the MFD........

Tapping into the electrical to power a piece of equipment is every day stuff........what's next........installing a radar detector will void your warranty........installing new stereo components will void the warranty..........hell they themselves tap into the electrical all the time when they run accesories........

Don't give up just yet bro........
