This last weekend I took the TSM GT-R to Road Atlanta for some track time with Chin Motorsports. I ran the whole weekend on PSS street tires to really get the feel for the car on a full street tire. While there wasn't a whole lot of open track to be had I really enjoyed the weekend. Dicing it up with other cars and lots of GT-R owners!

On Sunday in the first session I was able to break away for a clean lap and laid down my street tire personal best with a 1:29.94. I was very happy with my progression through the weekend and really enjoyed learning to manipulate the GT-R on streets vs. slicks to try to squeeze out every tenth that my experience would allow. The car ran flawlessly other than a tear in a axel boot which was an easy fix.

This may or may not be a Road A street tire record, Sharif would have to confirm what the hundredth diget on his 29.9 was when he ran it a couple months ago. Either way I was very happy with the car, and had a complete blast hanging out at the track for the weekend.

Speaking of Sharif I also wanted to congratulate him and Mike Skeen on the Road Atlanta GT-R record this weekend. Skeen was able to best my previously set record time by 2.4 seconds in Catesby Jones' GT-R setup on Hoosier R100 race slicks! Very fast time and a great accomplishment...bravo to Skeen, Catesby and the FP crew.

Here is the screen shot of my 1:29.94 if anyone is interested. I have in car video, but it is nothing too special so I won't post it unless someone really wants to see it!

Sweet Kelly,

Thanks for posting this up. I was curious.

That would have been a good wheel to wheel race with a 3 thousandths difference :)

What was his top speed on the back straight since you have it right there?

Just think, if you would have skipped lunch you might have knocked four thousandths off because of a better P/W ratio :poke:

I know! Damn it! LOL

I made a couple mistakes during the lap, and i'm leaving lots of time in turn 5 because it is my nemesis! LOL

I know you got a picture of me sideways someplace... I expect to make your blog HA!!!

Good seeing you this weekend Chad.

That slide coming out of 7 was pretty sweet lol the corner worker went "well, ok then, that's one way to do that lol" haha

I took like a total of 7-8 photos this weekend, I was really focused on getting video clips.

awesome time, Cicio... how fresh were the PSSs? Were these new tires? If not, approx. how much wear on them?

The PSSs were not by any means fresh but I wouldn't say worn out either. I would say they had 5-6 track days on them. I bought them in June of this year.

Honestly the biggest issue of the weekend were brakes. I am having the guys rebuild the calipers right now. Even with fresh pads and lightly used rotors I had extremely bad pedel fade. Like to give you an idea I had to brake for 10a TWICE every lap LOL... I had to move my brake marker back probably 30ft from my normal spot. Other than that I had a pretty big OS in 4 and a small mistake in 6 that cost me time. That is aside from my pitiful excuse for turn 5...I will conquer that corner eventually but for now it is very inconsistant.

168.06 mph Max speed from June. My lap in June was messy and conditions were pretty crappy. These cars will easily do 1:28's and probably 1:27's on PSS's with the right conditions.

Cool, mine was 166 so looks like we were about the same power wise...unless one of us got a much better run out of 7!

Good times!

I ran weekend before last with MVP on the PSS tires and mixed feelings about them. May of been that they were brand new. I ran several back to back laps 1:36. Issue I had most is the tires took half the twenty minute session to warm up then about 5 to 8 mins on fun till they got to hot and pressures shot to 40 psi. I would start out at 33 psi but the car loved 38 psi. We had lots of free track with MVP and was $150 a weekend cheaper. Chin has gotten crazy on there rates. Cicio I meet one of your customers over the weekend there too we had fun running together. I have a good video of him airborn 3.

Yeah MVP for sure has more track time, I just like the Chin crew a lot.

As for the tires that is strange....my PSS tires are ready for full tilt in less than a lap. I agree that after 5 laps of really hard driving they do get a little greezzzyyy, however they are a 300tw full street tire, so you really can't ask them to handle a modified 4000lb car for more than 5-6 laps of full tilt Road Atlanta. I find that just one cool down lap or a cruise through the pits and they are just fine for another 3-4 laps.

Let me know if I can help any, there may be some things in your setup that I could help with to make you enjoy the tire better. As for a full street going tire that you take to the track you can no beat the PSS. If you are looking for more grip and longer lapping times then give Mike at my office a call...that man knows more about tires then anyone I have ever met.

Glad you had a good time at the track tho...when is your next event?

I know I'm the weirdo of our forum, but I'm much more impressed with these times (Cicio's and Sharif's) than with "record" setting times set the last two weekends. Of course, I'm also the idiot that will make a 6hr drive to a track, not change a damn thing on his car, track it all day, then drive home the next day.
