A good question. In general the whole thing is a little gimmicky, but then if I use that as a criteria I wouldn't have half the stuff I have :)

For me I decided just to go with the basic DSM200 which is basically the same without the GPS. The unit is cheaper to buy and more importantly the annual subscription is more for the GPS system. For the amount of use it will get I decided to go without the GPS.

hey Brian

I ordered an XL202 from eBay but I returned it back because of the firmware difference :( .
I would like to buy one from you, but I need you to flash it with "202.RFTDDEI1_0_XX" for (Responder One). I think the current version is 0.03

Can you do that?

I couldn't send you PM, seems your inbox is full :)

I got mine and installed it, works great!

I decided to get the smartstart GPS system. I assume I just connect it to the D2D port? Also, is there a 12v wire I can splice into in that area? Otherwise, I'll just run a wire to the fuse box.

It gets its power via the D2D connection so you don't need to connect the power wire that comes with the unit (that is if it is used in a different configuration).

I will post up more information shortly regarding SmartStart as a few folks are now going (or have gone) that route.

I can but you can get a USB programming cable for $20-30 so that may be a better option for you because that way if for any reason it needs a different firmware you can do it yourself.

I am sure I wont be needing any other firmware for that, so it will be laying around for nothing. The only upgrade I would like to have is the SmartStart, but it is not supported in my country, and the Bluetooth module is useless.
Please PM me if you are willing to sell one with the firmware.

Thanks :)

I will PM you, I just thought it might actually be cheaper to get a programming cable locally with shipping etc.

Regarding the SmartStart

First step is configuring the remote start unit in the car (the DB-All) to accept the DSM200/DSM250

You don't need the USB programming cable you can do the following
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iGL2M5TNbs

Next step is to connect the DSM200 unit.

The steps are below but you can see me doing it on the following video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U--PKGIBYk

Posted Image

Steps shown in the video:

  • Unplug the blue connector on the DB-ALL to remove power
  • Connect the white cable from the SmartStart unit to the white socket on the DB-ALL
  • DO NOT connect the power cable that comes with the SmartStart, the SmartStart gets its power from the cable connected in the previous step
  • Next there is a grey wire on the DSM200/DSM250 that needs to be grounded to tell the DSM how to communicate with the DB-ALL
  • You can then reconnect the blue connector to the DB-ALL and will get a green light for a few seconds.
  • Now you need to wait a few minutes until you get a solid orange and green LEDs
Third step is to activate the DSM unit and for that PM or email me and I will send the instructions. I don't want to post publicly because technically they are supposed to be activated by a dealer and I don't want them potentially blocking this.
