In Topic: key fob programming at locksmith or dealer?

locksmith charged me $125 to program 2 fobs. my local Nissan dealer wanted $200 just to program saying it’s an hour job on the GTR which was a total lie. My locksmith had me programmed in under 15 minutes.

thanks for the confirmation! I went in with a spare generic nissan key fob with the same fcc ID and they were able to program it perfectly. I saved a ton by getting a generic nissan key instead of one with the GTR logo. altogether I think I saved over $300 by going this route. The only downside is no spare laser cut key but every thing else works perfectly. (update- every thing except the little black outside push button lock/unlock on the door. there must be something special about the actual GTR key that the generic nissan key fob doesnât have). anyway, I just needed a spare in case I ever got locked out since the previous owner only gave me one key. hope this helps others in a similar situation that do not wanna spend $700+ to have the dealership order a laser cut key from Japan.
