Does he wish he was on the 911 design team?

LOL might be an easier job being on the 911 design team. Change tail lights every 4 years.

Anybody know who design the new cayman?

Is there something wrong with the 2012 Boxster design?

On the other hand, the 911 design is a work of art and timeless in my opinion. l love my GTR, but the 997 turbo is hotter looking. They just look so low, wide and slick. My guess is the new 991 will be even hotter.
Whats the deal with the naming scheme? I thought it'd go 996, 997, 998, but you're telling me its 991? How do they get to these conclusions?

I have no clue.

930-964-993-996-997-991

very confusing
I just did a little google research on this one, so don't take it as gospel, but former Porsche design chief Harm Lagaay is credited with the initial design study, though credit for final exterior design of the boxster (and subsequent Cayman design) goes to a fellow named Pinky Lai (yup, real name...born in HK). Mr. Lai is still at Porsche overseeing Boxster/Cayman design. Mr. Lagaay has since retired.

Do u by any chance know that whether Mr. Lai also in charge of the new Boxster and Cayman?

thx

They wanted to keep using 900 name for abit longer, so they went back and started using unused codes (991 istead of 998)
That, and Porsche designers are the laziest bunch of all designers.

Just to clarify some semantics, I believe Mr. Lagaay, as design chief at the time of the initial development of the Boxster (and subsequent Cayman), would have been "in charge" of the design of the Boxster. From what I've read Mr. Lai is credited with formalizing the exterior design, which is only a portion of the overall design of the car.

The current Porsche chief designer/head of design is Michael Mauer. He is currently "in charge" of design for all cars coming from Porsche at present and so would be "in charge" of the Boxster/Cayman design as well. I believe Mr. Lai still works at Porsche on the Boxster/Cayman design team, though his (or Mr. Mauer's) specific contributions to the current (i.e. 2012) final product I am unsure. Difficult to find that type of information.

Sorry I couldn't provide more definitive information, but hope the above helps.

Likely handcuffed by a pathologically conservative board of directors. I'm sure the designers themselves would love to do more than they've been allowed. Example: 918 RSR. I was blown away the first time I saw this car. Still easily recognizable as a Porsche, but sexy in a very modern way. I'm surprised this car was allowed to exist.

Contrast this with the Panamera. Contrary to what people say, this does NOT look better in person than it does in pictures. Likely board of director-based design constraints regarding Porsche "DNA".

Or the "new" 991. i'm not sure i'd blame the designers for being limited to headlight/taillight redesign. again, i'd blame the board.
@Dtechproject

it really help a lot.. thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!
I'm a Boxster/cayman fan.... Midengine ... New 991 is better , at least a bigger footprint and slowly inching the engine forward
