I am told that oil changes on early MY2009 models are apparently more time consuming because the entire undertray needs to be removed to get at some fasteners, whereas on later models access is easier.

Dealer wants to drill 1" access holes and put in rubber plugs. The access holes allow them to get to some fasteners which allows them to avoid having to remove the entire undertray when doing oil changes.

Anyone heard of this or have it done to their car?

Do it. I did mine the first oil change and it changes a 2 hour job into a 30 minute job when changing oil or servicing the front diff.

The late 2009's, 2010-current all have the 1" holes with rubber plugs.

I bought the drill bit and gave it to my GT-R tech who retrofitted my undertray for free.
