I was driving a little spirited in manual mode, and the transmission shifted on its own.
Does this have anything to do with having the switches in any particular setting?
I was thinking I could've brought the RPMs up to the rev limiter.

Still new to the car and learning.

If your transmission switch is in normal vs R...and you hit redline....it will up shift for you. This is actually good for roll racing if you want to put the transmission in normal mode while in manual...this way you can be in the high rpm's in whatever ideal gear you want. Then just floor it and the car will shift for you.

Yep manual with trans in normal setting will still automatically switch but with R on it will not

I've done some TCM tuning that puts in auto change points up and down the box in Manual R mode....

Nah, this is a good and related question: Does R mode on transmission affect power AT ALL or is it just a more aggressive shift?

R transmission vs normal doesn't affect the power.

The shift is a little more aggressive, but it won't win or lose a roll race.
