I knew it would happen sooner or later, rod broke and went through the block..the rod is the weakest link on the GTR. Anyone know of a good engine builder in the socal area?

Don at Accelerated Performance builds some amazing motors!!
what kind of TQ were u at
dam..sorry to hear that..good excuse to get a built engine. Thanks for sharing the information by the way. Any chance you could share specifics such as

- What fuel?
- What boost?
- Mileage?
- Dyno sheet or numbers? hp and torque
- Mods on engine?

I know that makes you a little nervous seeing these threads... I followed your HKS800 build and really enjoyed seeing a true enthusiast do there own work.

Sorry to hear about your motor.

We have several different engine packages available that can be shipped directly to your shop of choice. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Yes they do a bit.. but I am always interested as the information I can get helps me make better judgement of how far I can tune my stock rods.
I have aftermarket turbos 700 whp and 680 torque on 100 octane. Car was running amazing for the last 2k miles but the torque just too much, rod let go on at full throttle run 5500 rpm. Smoke went out the back of the car like a missle. 9k miles, never tracked or launched just street use. Still looking for a reasonable shop to build my motor.
Sorry about your Mishap, i would recommend SP as well in Socal, it amazes me how people do not launch their cars, i launch it every week! LC2
did you tear down the engine already?? was there anything else going on that could have caused the failure or was it def just the power? Good luck with your new project
680tq would do it! It was only a matter of time! Sorry to hear as mentioned SPE for your area.
SP Engineering should be able to take care of you. Give them a call!

Thanks for the information..this would enlighten stock GTR modders of how far to we can go.
Good luck on the rebuild..I wish we had clinical engine builder in Bangkok.. I wouldnt hesitate to upgrade my internals.
Torque figures should have been limited.

I'm also on 700whp but my torque is only 602 as I'm on stock motor and trans

I think you are right, max torque on stock rods should be ~600..after that its a toss up. If you look at switzer P800 kit they limit torque and make 700 hp on stock internals and they claim to not have issues...but you really never know.
Agreed fellas - it seems like anything over the 620awtq numbers (or 600 really) and the rods won't like it much...

Very unfortunate to see another motor fail.

With the amount of rod failures, we have determined even a BPU (Boost Pressure Upgrade) can start bending your factory rods. We have disassembled motors from even a GT570 kit ( 525 AWHP / 530 TQ) and have seen rods bending on cylinders 3 and 4 with no signs of detonation.

It is a matter of time or just bad luck depending on how you drive the GTR. Some survive, some do not. I am not stating ALL motors will fail, but just stating the true facts based upon our findings through the years.

The 25 UK motors we've had on our hands were all disassembled and rebuilt with forged internals. I will say even those had rods starting to bend.
