So....
I live in LA. Just bought a GTR from a sketchy ass dealer in Spokane Washington (im an idiot, dont need it reiterated), had the car shipped and....
Color me surprised, no cats and the exhaust system is scuffed as shit.

The car was originally sold in Canada. The salesman is claiming it was imported correctly and legal in the US/ Washington.

My question. Due to the exhaust situation and it being formerly Canadian, is there any forseeable smog issues for CA if i were to get proper cats and lets say, this Tomei exhaust system installed?

I just want to be sure there isnt any other smog gear missing from canadian cars that would cause it to fail. Because if its too expensive to get it smog compliant I may have a lawsuit on my hands. The dealer has already denied my request to return the car.

edit: in case you didnt notice i f***ing hate CA DMV. Literally bought this car because i had smog issues for years on a LS3 swapped 300zx i spent over 20 grand on.
Live in la too and god being a car guy here is worse than murder

I am hearing you can still get your car tuned o Ecutek and find someone to do a fake smog for you in Cali. That was news to me.

I went through a similar experience. I also have a Canadian car. It came with some problems. Problems that melt away when I’m behind the wheel listening to the turbos suck up the world while simultaneously being pinned to my seat.

didn't know a Canadian car can register in the state. I thought it needs to be 25 years or older.
Non import list vehicles need to be 25yrs or older.
All others require the VIN specific clearance letter from the manufacture for importation into the US.

You can't even have an aftermarket air filter or intake pipe in California. Pretty much everything 'performance' wise will have to be stock from the Air filter to the catalyst.
I see this being thrown around on this forum a lot. Suprised after 15 years no one from CA has stepped up here. Thats not true. In fact im taking mine to a shop around here on the 30th thats doing a FBO E85 upgrade to ~650whp that is able to PASS smog

If it has a tune its not legal unless it has a Carb EO number. Unless you mean "legal"

Tons of shops got busted and lost their smog license here in Ca. It used to be easy years ago but not so easy now. I am sure there are a handful of people doing it still but you really have to know someone.

I guess it doesnt pass hands off. Some stuff has to be tweaked before the test, but he said I can do it myself techincally which makes me think its not very involved (thankfully).

^ I use the same tuner. I'm a huge fan of that shop, but what you've done is not smog compliant.
