Howdy everyone - I searched a ton for this specific issue and cant seem to find anything, but my coolant gauges are putting out an arbitrarily low number (right now it says 17 degrees and its about 70 degrees outside...). At first, I thought it may be a bad sensor, but I figured that would cause an error of some sort, which hasn't happened yet. Anyone have experience with this issue? As a note, both of the gauges (dash and infotainment) are showing the same very low number.

For reference, its a 2015 with ~39K miles on it. It has an Alpha 7 package and I most recently put the catted version of the mid-pipe on to replace the non-catted version.

Can you confirm you mean coolant temp sensor and not ambient air temp sensor?

If it's coolant, does the temp rise when stationary, but fall when moving?

well, NO.

the ambient temp sensor is in the front bumper. the coolant temp sensor is here:

so what you can do next disconnect the sensor, connect a 10k resistor, report the result. edit: plz also measure the resistance of the sensor itself.

Alrighty - getting back under the hood to tackle this issue tomorrow, but I did a quick OBDII scan today and the coolant temps are recording just fine. I’m a novice here, but I would think this means the sensor is fine and it may be the gauges. I was under the impression that the OBDII would get it’s reading from the sensor. Am I thinking about this correctly?

It could be a nick in the sensor harness, or corroded pins.

I think you’re right. It seems like there is one thing that reads the temp (and outputs that to the OBDII) and then another thing that relays the temp to the gauges. I believe it’s the second “thing” that’s failing, which doesn’t result in an error code.

Of course, it’s not super easy to get to because there’s a fuel line running right over it, so I’m probably over my skis on this one…prolly leave it to the pros.

Whelp, sort of an embarrassing but encouraging solution to this problem. I forgot that the coolant sensor tack was being reformatted to push out the % ethanol content. At least its a problem that doesnt need solving...

That is odd, in most cases the Secondary Air Pump signal is hijacked for E%

Are you running EcuTek? The coolant gauge shouldn`t be showing E% until you press the cancel button, or that`s the way mine is configured.
