Hey everyone,

This is my first post here as Im close to finalizing a deal to acquire a 2015 GT-R Black Edition w/ ~11K miles. The prior owner moved to Nebraska from Ontario and imported the car to the states, eventually traded it into a dealership and now Im looking to acquire the car from said dealership.

Ive searched around and couldnt quite find anything specific. Ive read that Canadian cars are specd differently than American cars (understandably so) and I wanted to see if anyone knew what exactly the differences would be for a GTR built for the USA and one for Canada? Aside from the odometer showing kilometers as the dominant speed, is there anything else I should know about?

I really appreciate all the help and input. Looking forward to more involvement here!

I guess one other question to note is whether or not it would be worth paying more potentially to get an American GT-R instead of a Canadian one? There happens to be another GT-R BE with ~10K miles, but is a 2016, so one MY newer, but is being sold for for about $4K more. I just dont know if its worth it to shell out the extra $4K and not worry about any hassle about the Canadian car entirely and potential resale issues down the road, or if Im just being paranoid/naive.

I would not personally, just not worth the hassle. You would need to change over the speedo and thy can be a total pain in the ass. Know of multiple people with multiple cars where it bit them in the ass. Everything from a Lambo to a Tesla and Nissan.

You ever sell it and you will be explaining forever why your carfax and speedo do not match.

@droptopp appreciate the reply! Are you talking about the odometer? Because the odometer I figured you can switch from KM to miles on the fly which lines up with the carfax. I have video of the dash on the car and it does show the accurate mileage (in miles) which matches up with Carfax. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

The speedo though you're right is in kilometers, but I guess I looked at that as more of a minor gripe rather than a big salability issue. I was intending to just put the speed on the MFD and not even use the analog speedo.

Only $4k more for a model year newer with similar low mileage? I'd go for the USA-spec car.

I'm in Canada , with a Texan 2012 GTR. We didnt get many 12s due to limited numbers produced due to the nuclear explosion.

There are no differences at all. Other then the speedo.

You are not required to change over the speedo instrument cluster.. as you can tell it's been already registers in the state of Nebraska and street legal.

Some people may be worried with 'history'.. etc.. Not sure how they cant comprehend any mileage discrepancy.. simple formula.. 1 x 1.6..or ÷ ...We have very strict regs here, carfax and carproof, insurance, police reports.. were the Switzerland of North America Far stricter and held accountable then in the USA.

The day I decide to sell my gtr to a fellow canadian and get offered less.. LOL.

Might aswell sell it back to an American across our imaginary border..

FYI... Its built in Japan on the same assembly line.

NOW...If the steering wheel was on the wrong side of the car.. I'd understand

Is the DRL's ( which if someone can confirm, do the US cars now come with factory DRL's?)

Other than those two items, the cars are identical.

A 12 and up GTR has the lower LED lights as daytime running lights.

My American 2012 has the led lights active upon startup without any modification.

2009-2011 could be an issue?

Here in Ontario, Daytime running lights are mandatory.

I don’t think it’s any different than the US model besides small stuff like the speedo. I believe either the European or Japanese versions had a lower speed limiter placed and only unlocks the speed limiter when the car detects your in a race track. I don’t know if the Canadian speed limiter is the same or not.

Yes, if DRLs are now mandatory in the US, then a relay will need to be installed for the MY09 to MY11s.

DRLs are mandatory in all of Canada.

With regards to the speedo, anytime you get service, you run the risk of having the wrong mileage entered and subsequently entered into a Carfax type database.

Again speaking from personal experience you only need one entry to be incorrect and the possible problem with resale arises.

If you live in a province with mandatory inspections, your mileage will be entered at that time.
