I had an 1/8th tank of gas left in mine when I did it. I figure standard nitrile gloves would be fine. NOPE! Gasoline got in through my wrist then started burning my skin after my hand was submerged in gas for quite a bit.
My advice, get long thick gloves that will not break down in gasoline. You want them to go at least to your mid fore arm. I then used medical tape to secure them so gas couldn't go down the inside of my gloves.
