Do lightweight wheels improve performance?

Handling, braking and acceleration are all helped by wheels and tires that weigh less in general. Less energy is used when changing speed either up or down, but for constant speed it doesn't matter much on weight. If you want better performance a good place to start is look at unsprung weight loss.

In the case of wheels you want strongest possible with less weight. Less costly wheels are cast because it is cheaper to make and is strong enough with moderate weight to work for street use. Usually it is too heavy for optimal performance driving.

Forged wheels are typically stronger with less weight but will cost more for these qualities but even strong wheels can fail with enough stress and wear such as racing or track use. Very light wheels may not take abuse from street use very well (hitting potholes or curbs).

A common approach is to set a budget for wheels and tires, if you want performance look at tires first to get the best match for your priorities. Then choose a wheel that will fit well with tire sizes available to work with the GTR.

For tires weight is secondary to other factors like rubber compound, tread design, and overall construction. A better tire that weighs a little more is a good investment.
