Was back-stage with Marcus Schulz at Avalon Hollywood on Saturday, it was incredible!! I love mau5, Tiesto is good but not like the old days, house music is definitely in my blood...

Awesome! My only brush with celebrity - got to hang out with PvD back stage @ Twilo in his glory days, around 99... Yeah, I'm old... :(
Oh I love this thread! Big EDM head, not only do I listen to it, but I DJ it and try my best to produce it!

oh yea my kid loves EDM...

Btw, mau5 trolled TRANCEADDICT forums while back but was good with dome solid producing tips, even replied to PMs... But this was before he got big. I dig a lot of his stuff but not too keen on his occasional antics.

But most of my tracks are unfinished... Just docking around in spare time... :p

Last pic, on the right. Stanton + numark hdx (yeah, I know)

The track I last recorded is some trippy shit. Let's just say some herbs were involved but came out rather interesting. SomeThing to chill to - if you're in similar state as I was in when recording. Bouncy stuff never gets finished - I'm too hard of a critic of myself and give up when I dont get the results I'm looking for. Hence about 150+ works in progress...

yea I know what you mean about the bouncy stuff its hard to not be a harsh critic on yourself especially with all the EDM produces out right now that are just putting out banger after banger!

Used to listen to some of this stuff. Back in the day big Josh wink fan. What about plastic man? Big into a lot of different electronic genre's.

plastikman = richie hawtin

cynep, i'm with you, '99 is when i was just starting to slow down, lol!

used to play, back in the day. still buy music and play out for friends a couple times a year when they ask, but mostly still do it for myself.

don't think i'll ever stop.
p.s. forgot to comment, i have a lot of respect for the people who devote the time and creative energy to producing music. jade, enjoyed your track, would like to hear more of what you do. cynep, what can i say about your setup...wow...and i completely understand the whole self-criticism trip (probably why i've only ever recorded less than a handful of sets in the last dozen years), but i would like to hear some of what you've done.

i'm blown away at quality of the sound engineering/production of tracks nowadays. waaaay different from what it used to be!

derek
LOVE this thread. Been into electronic music in general since high school and have gotten back into house music over the past two years since a new club opened near my university. Started DJing a bit last year- nothing serious, just a few house parties for friends, but it's been a blast so far.

I've always been fascinated by the versatility of electronic music, ranging from super aggressive/intense to some of the most serene, beautiful stuff I've ever heard in my life.

Currently really digging this new track by Kaskade:

This is somewhat related but, I finally gave in to making a Pandora account yesterday, and WOW its amazing. First it played me generic trance, and even *shudders* sandstorm and children LOL. Then I hit Thumbs Down, and Next Track, and about 7 tracks later it was a sweet mix of melodic dubstep (Flux Pavillion mostly, siiiick), and electro/house trance, like 4 Am (Adam K and Soha Remix), along with some older stuff, and man, I'm just loving it so far.

Btw since everyone's mentioning it themselves, I produce too. I used to produce a lot of Happy Hardcore (well, UK Hardcore to be specific), Freeform (a type of Hardcore...) like Kevin Energy - actually got two tracks on his label and one on vinyl), and dabble in dnb and trance these days. Its so fun.
Recently, it seems I can only listen to EDM. Right this moment I've been listening to Sloz, Joey Mazzola/Mike Balance, Spencer and Hill.
I LOVE pumping the House while driving down the highway in the GTR. This car seems made for EDM.

I don't produce, but I'm an avid listener: prog, dance, trance, minimal, electro, so many good tracks in so many genres. Beatport loves me!

I like EDM but really not hardcore (back in the day - late 80's and early 90's - really into Chicago and UK house music and Freestyle)...
Now it is one of my genre staples on my runs at the gym. I am not up to date on current EDM artists and most of the time don't catch the names of the artists when I listen to BPM.

The folks on my Ipad video archive I have now are Alex Gaudino, Armin van Buuren, Cascada, Hypercrush, Kaskade, Rank 1, Rico Bernasconi, Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Benny Benassi, George Acosta...to name a few. Probably not really hardcore EDM but they get me going on the treadmill. Any recommendations are welcome...always willing to broaden my musical perspective.
^^^ Depends what sort of stuff are you into mostly. Is it harder, more housey, more techy, more trancey, more uplifiting?

For gym: I'd recommend Sean Tyas, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz. For uplifting/melodic: Aly & Fila, Roger Shah, For Techy: Radioslave, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox. For housey/prog: Can Costa (Ricky Ryan), Flash Brothers; Pop-ish: David Guetta/Tiesto (yechhhhh)

Somewhere all over, almost always interesting: Paul van Dyk

edit: /off topic: that Hyundai in your sig, with a truck behind it - it makes it look like it has a ricer whale wing LOL
