Evo X MR Owner

Hey guys, been lurking around the forums for awhile reading up on the DCT on the R35 and dreaming of owning a GT-R someday.

I'm in NYC (queens/manhatten) and right now I'm driving a lightly modified Evo X MR (also a DCT, the "SST"). I've pretty much hit the limits of HP/TQ for this transmission without upgrading clutch packs. Tuned to a safe 300awhp, which felt way faster than stock (220 at wheels) - but didn't realize how slow it really is until I ran with a GT-R at an undisclosed location... The evo really shines on narrow windy mountain roads, not a straight line so I have to keep telling myself that haha...

Anyways, I'll be saving up and working hard to hopefully get in a GT-R in the next 3 years. Wish me luck! :D

Welcome man! Very nice evo, but the GTR is a totally different ball game.

feel free to post while you save up for the GTR. the more enthusiasts, the better.
There are quite a few members who have Evos as well as GT-R's. For those of us who have both, I think we all agree that the Evo is an incredible machine and awesome bang for your buck. It feels like a mini GT-R almost. But the GT-R pushes the performance to the next level and gives you a true supercar feel. I love them both though.
To be totally honest with you (please don't hate me for this). As a person who drives the car maybe 8 miles daily and tracks it rarely- I sometimes wish I did have an EVO instead. The GT-R is great, however you can't even drive it to 50% potential realistically on the streets.
Having both cars (GTR and Evo X Mr) the Evo is fun, but the Gtr is a totaly diff animal.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

If I do end up getting a GT-R, the evo isn't going anywhere :) I'll keep it for when I need to comfortably fit 5 people in the car, and for the tough north east winters.

As for using the full potential, I take frequent trips upstate into the catskill, berkshire, and adirondack mountains. Between that and some ocean roads on Long Island, plenty of open back roads to take advantage of. Would really love to get on the track as well.

Are there any GT-R meets in the TriState area? Would be nice to check out some local GT-Rs. I know there's some in the Exotics Rally club, but wondering if any exclusive meets around.

Thanks!

Dont believe the hype.
I road raced/auto x my EVO SST or 18 months, launch it over 100 times, ran a 11.9 second 400m pass and set numerous lap records all on the stock clutches.
Just like the GTR, combine the right transmission programming with the right transmission fluid, and you will have a very good result.
There are - lots - of downgrades people buy in the EVO X world!

Martin, have you guys been tuning the actual transmission as well or by tuning do you mean adjusting the torque curve so the transmission survives? I have read some recent stuff on tranny beta testing but I didn't think anyone actually tested it out yet!
And this is why I'm in the market for a used MR. If anyone has any leads please pm's me!
Hi Martin, thanks for the info on the Willall Evo MR! I've heard of you guys here and there, I know some owners who have used your fluid with great results. I don't doubt the SST MR has great potential, I'm just not sure I want to invest the time and money while taking a gamble on it. I don't know of anyone in the area that can really tune the transmission's ECU properly, and in the event I royally screw something up, I'm out 10k for an new trans.

I might actually sell my MR and purchase a GSR from someone in my local evo club. He has about 15k in parts and is on a very conservative tune that is over 400whp. I figure this would hold me over until the GT-R, at which point I'll get back into the DCT.

@airjoker66 - let me know if you're interested in the MR. I have very meticulous records and would be happy to take you for a test drive.

Thanks again for the replies, I've always felt that NAGTROC is a really friendly community, without a lot the BS I come across elsewhere on other car sites/forums.

Welcome! Almost bought an Evo X myself as a third car but couldn't justify getting another gas swilling beast lol! Did have a blast in them while taking the Jim Russell school though

Best of luck getting a GT-R in the future!

OP, your car is my dream DD. Almost bought one before going all out for the GT-R.
