Here's a video of my first two "wheel to wheel" races in my 2009 GT-R - a fully race prepped (roll cage, full Seibon Carbon fiber, interior removed, racing seat, etc.). The event was the NASA Southeast Competition School which included two races. While there was no "winner" it was all out racing nonetheless. (Due to rain earlier in the day, I was running on R888's versus the usual Hoosier R6 or R100 slicks.)

I have plans to run the car this year in NASA ST2 class after running it last year in NASA Time Trials - TTU. I missed several time trials last year in the Southeast but the car garnered a half dozen or so 2nd place finishes and once placed 1st. In September 2011 I went to NASA Nationals at Mid Ohio and placed 4th overall in TTU.

Looking forward to a fun season and I'll keep updating NAGTROC with posts...

Nice work, fantastic, love road racing vids.

Can you share some info on your setup, wheels, brakes/pads. Suspension?

How do you manage gearbox and brake temps?

Yes there is lots of trash in them. Like the 18 former cars someone owned, but no longer does.

The video itself looks good. The GT-R looks fast. Faster than the 500 hp it is listed as having.

What does it weigh?

Even on the R888 it looks like it could pass anyone anywhere the OP wanted to.

Yes, I did crash it last May into a tire wall at Carolina Motorsports Park. No frame damage but we did take the opportunity then to turn it into a full blown race car with a full cage, complete removal of all interior (except dash) and,

The car in this video had 518 HP to the wheels and boost was hitting around 18 psi (can go to 21.5). I was driving at around 80% given it was Comp School, I was on R888's and I hadn't yet definitely decided that I was going to race it. But after Comp School I was hooked and am moving forward to race it this year. However, we are scaling back the car to run it in ST2 class versus ST1. Given the requirements of ST2, we will be "de-tuning" the car to meet the required power to weight ratio of 8.70:1. In essence taking the engine HP performance back to stock.

We will also be decreasing the size of the tires we'll run in ST2. To date I have been running Hoosier R6's or R100 slicks (315's) in Time Trials but in order to meet the Wt/Hp Ratio I will have to decrease the tire size to 275's. And I'll be running R6's to stay with a DOT tire and not suffer any penalty points.

From a weight perspective we have to come in at 3700+ lbs to meet the Wt/Hp ratio (including driver) so we may have to add just a few pounds to the car to meet this requirement.

This will definitely be a growing process, both for the driver (me) and our shop (Motorsport Legends/Extreme Speed). Rob at our shop is handling much of the day to day issues and setup for the car. Sharif from Forged Performance will be providing the tuning expertise and will continue to provide extensive input, support and oversight throughout the season, as he has from day one on this car. Sharif and his guys have been not only excellent to work with over the last couple of years but they've become good friends as well. To my knowledge, this will be one of the first (if not the first) GT-R that is being raced in the NASA series. So we are excited about 2012.

I worked on a friends Scion tC that he ran in NASA out here on the west coast for the last...5 years or so. We ran it in NASA PT, TT, E1 WERC, 25 Hours of Thunderhill, SCCA World Challenge, Grand Am. I am pretty familar with NASA's rule set, and how that goes. We win a lot, so we get a lot of scrutiny. http://www.speedcasttv.com/#/races/286 I can think of some things you don't want to tell anyone that you have the capability of doing. We have gone on the dyno 4 times in a weekend when they thought we were doing too good.

Underpressure ran his R35 out at NASA Nationals one year, but I think he was in TT, no PT.

NASA has always been a pretty fun series, at least out here on the west coast. Got to love a race series that has a beer garden before the first enduro of the year, with the gas powered margarita maker(not open to enduro participants).

Good luck this year. Watch those tires. GT-R is heavy for a 275.

I ran a few TT's with NASA this past season and plan on running the full TTU schedule this year in the Rocky Mountain region.

Saw your GT-R there when I was doing my instructor license. Best wishes for you and the car, and hopefully to meet you in person in future NASA events.

Chinchi, I think I saw that you just registered as an instructor for the Tracks Unlimited event on May 12-13 at the new Atlanta Motorsports Park. I look forward to meeting you there.

Also, will you be at Roebling with NASA in April? Right now I'm planning on going.

Mark,
Unfortunately, I won't be going to Roebling Road with NASA in April since I will be attending a event with NARRA at Road Atlanta on the same date. Looking forward to see you at AMP! AMP should be a fun track!

Not sure if we've met before but I saw you were going to be at Road Atlanta with NARRA in a couple of weeks. I'll be down there that weekend as well. Look forward to seeing you there.

Should be fun. If you're not able to get the GT-R, what are you going to be running for the weekend?

Normally I am running a Supra, and my brother runs a Evo X. For this NARRA event, I will be running my friend's GT-R, and my brother takes my Supra since Evo is still under a knife now. Hopefully the Evo will be ready the week after for the Barber event, otherwise I will need to figure something out quick.
