Hey everyone,

I'm looking at 2010 gtr's from the mainland and I have a couple of questions for those of you who've shipped one in from there. I'm looking at private sales mostly but still thinking about getting one from a dealer.

How much do you have to pay for the sales tax when registering the car here?

Does a new car tax sale pertain to models 2 years younger or less?

Should I get one gtr from private seller so it'll be less tax?

You will still get taxed the 4.172% tax. Buy from a private seller though so you don't have to pay tax twice.

When you buy PO in CA, you only pay use tax and registration on stated value. Quote low blue book, and pay fees based on that figure.

If you aren't on Oahu you don't pay the 1/2% tax on top of the base 4%.

If I remember correctly, if your car comes with license plate they won't ask you for the taxes. If you don't have plates they will ask you to get paperwork from the state tax office when you pay your taxes. Then you bring the paperwork to the DMV and they issue you plates. That's how it was when I got my Terminator from Texas.
