Hi guys, my name is Tony, im from upstate NY...My current car is a 2011 zr1 making 700/717 i love the car and i offten wonder if im nuts for thinking of getting rid of it....I am a car guy and since the GTR came out iv been interested in one....I am almost ready to take the leap over to the dark side, however i have a few questions. What kind of power would it take to make a gtr run like my zr1 from 60 rolls? also what package or parts? and How much money? I do have e85 available incase i tune the gtr for it... thanks guys

Its going to cost some money to get it to perform the same way especially from a 60 roll. Your going to need a built motor and a little more power than the zr1 to run the same. The stock motor will let go eventually making that power.

You can run any roil you want though with the GTR and not have to worry about traction which means you could get a lot more of variety runs in. If you don't romp (racing) on the car often every weekend the motor will last a decent amount of time. I feel it all depends on how the person drives the car, I went out about every weekend and mine lasted 8k miles making 766 on a Mustang Dyno on E85. Most people don't have the E85 readily accessible and drive around making low 600's on pump and they will tell you its all on the tune when in reality they aren't running the car on full power but 15% of time. I would inquire with the shops above and shop around a little to see what "package" best fits what your looking for.

I came over from 2 vettes,

you could get a E85 tune making about 570/570whp , which will go 10.5s @131-133 on street tires.. not sure what a Zr1 traps with 707 ? thinking 135-138 .. so it would be close..
from a 0-130 zr1 will get killed due to traction issues..

that package above is about 5-6k with injectors.. that will give you a solid mid 10 sec street car , after that pistons and rods and bigger turbos will get you to where I'm at

9.6-9.8s @ 145-148mph 800whp on my car.. E85

Vettes at the track are hard to get good MPH but I've ran some while I was making 715 trapping 140 and the vette I ran was making 650 and from a 60 roll he got me by a bumper literally. I would imagine with a proper driver that vette would have touched the 140's. From a 60 roll its going to be very hard to match the performance of the vette without dropping some loot. The same vette that beat me by a bumper ran 12's at 122 just because half the people can't drive those cars properly at the track but not he street from 60 its a dangerous car. This Vette wasn't a ZR1 but a LS3 supercharged and cam but the power is similar to your set up. I would have destroyed him from a lower roll, he knew this, and thus for refused to race me from a 45.

In the 1/4 mile or from a low roll the GT-R will be noticably faster even with less power. From a roll the ZR-1 will have the advantage, the GT-R would need to be making at least as much power to out accelerate the Vette. One of the biggest things helping the GT-R from a roll is going to be its lightning fast shifting.

Thanks for the help guys..I havent been to the track with my zr1, but one of my good buddies has a tt viper making 720/740 on low boost and he traps 145ish at the track my zr1 walks him from 60 rolls out on the highway...I know its not all about roll racing either, i just love the gtrs, you guys got some cool cars! Lucky eff, i dont have a pm

I agree with what others have said. 1/4 mile the GTR is a beast, taking out cars with way more WHP. The 1/8 is really quick.

From a 60 roll, it loses a lot of it's advantage. Built motor and larger turbos's would be the ticket to take out a 700whp ZR1 on the highway.

That being said, stock turbo GTR's with 500+whp are a total blast to drive around town or track. Putting 550 WHP down from a dig or tight apex at will is fun as hell.

I also have a ZR1 and will say it. Its stupid fast when it has traction. You would have to spend a lot of money to get the GT-R up to where your current ZR1 is. From a dig, GT-R will take it, but your ZR1 slowly starts catching it around 80 mph. From a freeway roll or 60 mph its no contest, absolutely the ZR1. The ZR1 is lighter and has much more power. The GT-R is incredible about putting traction down, but there is no replacement for 700 hp ;)

If it were just 700 rwhp z vs 700 awhp gtr id say are you nutz????? The zr1 is 120k while the gtr is 90k. One is a 121 mph car outta the box while the other is a 131 mph car outta the box.

With a 30k price differance and ten mph advantage for the zr1 i would say this is a huge downgrade your considering.

Then i think of the couple hundred thousand regular c6s and the 40k z06s and the slew of z lookalike z51 optioned vettes and think about how an r35 gtr is simply the gtr with no higher or lower models that youll see a couple of every week or even daily.

When i think about it like that it dosent seem like a downgrade at all.

Goodluck with your decision. Fwiw my friend has a gtr and z06 and a gallardo and he prefers daily driving the z06 because he says the gtr rides really rough. I never would have thought that but he really dosent care much for it because of the ride and road noise.

That stuff probally wouldnt bother me as i love the race car feel but just passing on what was told to me. He claims its so bad hes gonna sell it????? Perhaps a lemon?

More like 122-125 outta the box for a stock 2012 ..

Same night same track at PBIR, a ZR1 was trapping like 126 -127 while a stock 2012 GTR was trapping 124. ET not even close .

Driver does make a difference, but from what I have seen, a stock ZR1 does not trap 10 over a stock 2012 GTR....

my recommendation, find a nice 2009 model GT-R for sale, i am even thinking of parting with my GT-R which will be 1000whp GTR once the motor is back in it. But in reality u can get a 09 low mileage good condition GT-R for ~65-70k. Then another 25k for mod's your around 95k, way less then a ZR1 goes for new, and realistically u could be making 800-950whp and probably eat that ZR1 up and the GT-R Is much more a "Daily Driver" then a ZR1 is.. Especially if you live anywhere u get rain / snow or very cold days.

I was going to post almost the same info. One of my buddies has a 2010 ZR1, bone stock with about 3K miles on it. From a standing start, I have him up until about 80 to 85 mph, but by the time we hit 100, he is pulling away from me. I would own a ZR1 if it weren't made by Gov't Motors.
