Is a used 2009 good for my planned use or should I look at a 2010?

I am just looking into buying a used gtr. My price point is in line with a 2009, but I want to be sure I am not missing something from a reliability standpoint. This car would almost never be tracked and if it was it would be "casual" and very infrequent, perhaps once a year. My concern is mostly reliability in the 2009 vs. the 2010 as I don't want it to be an excessive money pit, hence not putting it on a track. I am not concerned with additional horsepower or tech on later models, I suspect for my use the 2009 will be more than enough. Additionally, I would not be doing modifications to it. It seems the loudest noise out there is the LC1 issues and it appears I can have Nissan analyze to see the LC history before buying. Are there other factors I should be considering, from a reliability and repair perspective with the 2009? I would prefer to stay within my proposed budget, but would consider moving up to a used 2010 if there are 2009 issues that make it worthwhile. I'm just not sure there are any issues for type of driving I would be doing. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Just sold my '09. Had zero reliability issues and I tracked it several times and ran at the Texas mile in '10. Never turned VDC off and followed recommended maintenance schedule. As I see it, it wasn't until the '12 MY that there were large enough tech changes to warrant a trade up. The things to look at are the mileage and status of tires, brakes and trans/diff fluid changes. You are looking at approx $2K for tires, $2K for fluids and $3K for brakes, since rotors have to be changed, as well as pads. I suspect that many '09 are due for all of these things, so a car that needs them should be priced accordingly.
an 09 with 10-15kmiles should have good brakes and tires still if it wasnt tracked,,,im aalso looking for a low mileage 09
No problems with mine so far and its been lightly modded (exhaust + tune). The reliability of all the years should be the same, because nothing was really changed to increase reliability (except LC1 software). Look for a LC1 virgin and just have the dealer flash the tranny to LC2. I had the dealer flash it with 18K service.
39k on my car, and it's a joy. Only true mechanical interruption was the steering lock. Good luck with your purchase.
I am in the midst of debating on trading up to a 12 or 13 due to the improvements made since the 09 (engine, trans tcm, suspension, and cooling). One of the factors holding me back is the titanium color, still my favorite color. Between an 09 and 10 I don't think there were significant changes. If you are worried about the LC1, I recall there used to be a thread that mentioned checking the VIN numbers to find out if the GTR was shipped stateside with LC1 or LC2.

ted99 - do you think the upgrade to the 12 was worth it from the 09? The biggest pull for me to go with a 12 or 13 is performance similar to a lightly modded 09 (MP and cobb) with a warranty.

Jeff,

I believe it really is a financial decion that should look before you jump.

New 09's were 72k Now if you could sell at low 6xxxx it would be great and im sure you could sell your s at that price any day of the week.

a 12-15k depreciation in 3-4 years is awesome.

Buying a '12 or '13 you would lose value much quicker. Some used '12 sold for low 80's so at a loss of over 15k in one year is hard to swallow. People who shop and buy for a 100k sportscar have money to lose as they want the newest latest and greatest.

'09 s will steadily stay in the 5x,xxx range for more than a year if mileage is kept low.

The number of new owners looking to jump into the "GTR" super car in the entry price point that you will always be at will out number any potential buyer for a used '12 or '13 down the road.

either way you win you still got a GTR! its just how much you have in the bank will be the difference.
