Model/Year comparison thread?

I don't really have a price range at this point just trying to get a better understanding. I realize purchasing a used modified version would be beneficial from a cost and insurance savings standpoint compared against each year's factory improvements being made. This certainly makes it difficult to make a decision on when to jump into the game. I currently have an APU MkIV supra and use to high power but these cars and in a different league. Not to say having 6-speed gearbox isn't desirable especially if you want that grounded feeling of control, but in a lower tech way.
