I am in Canada and in the final stages of searching for my GT-R. I have an offer accepted by a reputable dealer for a pristine 2016 GT-R Premium - gunmetal grey, 24K miles, one owner, no accidents and bone stock. $75K USD + tax. That car has been on-hold for the past week due to another potential buyer's lingering deal, which has since fallen apart based on his lack of financial strength.
In the meantime, i have been scouring the market for a potential alternative if the other buyer's deal did in fact proceed. I have found no less than 4 other cars, all with higher miles, but 2 with minor accidents and all with 3-4 prior owners. All 4 cars have been modified with about $35K of add-ons. Interesting that, in spite of the add-ons, all are selling for a price lower by $5-10K USD compared to the pristine GT-R that I have 'tentatively' purchased.
My questions is this: should I go with the pristine and bone stock GT-R or are mods overly discounted by the market? Is provenance that valuable?
A comment regarding my background: I have modified many hotrods over the past 20 years and I love the horsepower (up to 1200) but I hate the potential lack of reliability that may result from serious mods to any car. So, reliable horsepower with AWD and an automatic tranny are my requirements. If I bought the pristine GT-R there would be absolutely no mods and the market may appreciate that once I decide to sell (in 10? years or so.)
