Planning a golf buddy trip to San Diego/LA area (last year was Phoenix year before Monterey). Not sure about if we are staying in SD or LA or someplace in-between. We plan to fly in Wed night and head back Sunday...so golf Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We are already planning on hitting Torrey Pines...I'm an 8 and the other guys are 15 and up.

I need your personal recommendations on really superlative golf courses...I'm willing to pay a premium for at least one course (even more but my other buddies are cheap bastards so one higher priced course would be their tolerable limit). Probably max for them would be $100-$125 for the "regular" courses.

Also...does SD or LA have any decent cigar bars/lounges or are they banned by the smoke nazis that govern California?

Pelican Hill. Monarch Beach. Trump (cheesey, but fun). Strawberry Farms.

If you had to play one of the golf course mentioned above...which would you choose?
That would definitely be Pelican Hill (Ocean North course).

Both Trump and Monarch Beach are not too bad of a choice.

Strawberry Farm is OK but probably not worth your trip over here.

Oak Creek in Irvine and Tustin Ranch are both fun courses for what they're charging.

You may also want to consider Aviara Four Seasons in Carlsbad.

If your going to San Diego, I am a member at Maderas which is a beautiful course. It will run you the same as Torrey since you aren't a resident($300 per person). You can also try and get into the Grand Del Mar Golf Course, but I believe it's members only unless you stay at there hotel which is very nice as well.

Pelican Hill (Ocean North course) gets my vote. Ditch the caddy if you and your buddy talks dirty during golfing.. hahaha
Hahaha....but if you and the beverage cart girl like to talk dirty then it would have to be Hidden Valley in Norco (wink, wink) ...hahaha

Pelican Hills is probably the best bet, but I believe it's around $300 to play. If your friend doesn't want to pay that much, try Oak Creek it's $140 on weekend. I think it's the best bang for the buck around that area.
