My names Nathan, I'm 21 and just recently (23 days ago) bought my 2009 Nissan GT-R with 4500 miles on it. I now have 5500 miles and heard this terrible knocking noise today when heading to class. I immediately turned around and took the car back and got my truck. Can someone please help tell me what this noise might be before I take it to the shop.

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

Could the transmission oil pressure being somewhat low cause this to happen? if you look in the video it shows a little less than half on the gauge. is that normal? sorry I'm such a newb.

don't drive it. call the hotline, have it taken to a dealer.
Hotline? whats that? and I do have an accessport and Y pipe. will this cause my warranty to be voided?

I really appreciate all the quick responses. as you can imagine I'm a nervous wreck.

First off, your warranty is never completely voided from modifications.
It just means that if you do something or if your car has something that can cause an OE part to fail, the warranty claim can be denied.
With the GT-R, IF it's an engine / transmission or other key component, the warranty replacement is not up to the dealer, it will be up to Nissan.
They may also review related black box data.

Retuning the car puts you in a gray area, depending on what this issue is they may/may not cover it. But you should take the car in.
You'd have nothing to lose, you don't know what the problem is.

You should read this: http://www.nagtroc.o...gtroc-gt-r-faq/

Worst case, Nissan says no, but there are some really good shops here who can fix it. But there's a real chance it will be OK.
The hotline info is at the bottom of that link.

also have to to ask... does it have the original launch control and have you launched it or know how many times it was launched before buying it... usually this problem is non existent now because of the updates... but the sound your cars is making sounds like grinding maybe from 1st gear as it seemed to do it as the car first moved foward. although its strange it hasnt gone into limp mode

I believe the launch control is the updated one... It will only rev to about 2500 rpm. Not sure if that is the updated one or not.

The car has been launched maybe 4 times by me and I do not believe that the car was launched before.

That is the first time the car has made that noise more than once and has only done it when the car was cold before. And you're correct it stops after about 10 mph.

ok if it has the new update... it shouldnt be launch related....

the only time ive ever heard something like that was when me and a technician were messing around with transmission settings and we had the touch points all the way up to +7 it made a more muted version of that noise just as it moved foward....

Let us know how it turns out. Definately not normal, and it's damaging so don't drive it until addressed. Let us know if we can help you if it doesn't work out with the dealership. We perform transmission repairs and full upgrades entirely in house.

Car has been at Team Nissan in Marietta Ga for Almost 3 weeks now, on wednesday October 12th the dealer called me and told me they were going to cover my transmission under warranty and it would be ordered the following day. I gave the shop a call on that following friday to get another update and just to make things were running smoothly. I was then told that they had to run more tests and couldn't order the transmission until monday. Monday around lunch I called back and they informed me that they still hadn't ordered the trans and they were directed by Nissan North America to drive the vehicle.... Didn't sound like a very good idea... and get an audio recording of the noise the transmission was making. Apparently the video i provided wasn't enough. Finally today I get a call from Nissan and they tell me that my warranty claim has been denied.

Can someone please tell me if I'm within my rights to appeal my claim considering they told me twice that they were going to cover it... and they also drove the car with the transmission knocking, after they told me repeatedly to not drive the car? That just seems extremely unprofessional.

Also the shop is trying to charge me a diagnostics fee.... what should I do? Is their some way to get out of this mess considering the shop told me twice that they were going to cover the transmission and order it?

Thanks in advance,
Nathan Holman

Thanks and good luck to you too. I hate to see all this going on with nissan and such an amazing vehicle. Sucks working for years to buy your dream car and 3 weeks later find out you have to somehow come up with money for a transmission rebuild. especially with a car with such low miles.

What reason did they give for not covering it?

accessport. Black box data showed the AP being installed with 5644 miles and pulled back off with 5800 miles. apparently that was enough to void the warranty
