Picking up my GT-R in a few days and taking a US road trip to break it in..

So first off, I'm AJ. I'm sure I know a few of the guys on this forum from another New York area club, but I was in an 07 Porsche Turbo before, so this is my first venture into the world of GT-R's. I'm a pretty avid photographer: http://www.AnthonyClemente.com so you'll be seeing plenty of GT-R shots from me in the future.

I decided that I was ready for a new car about a month ago while my turbo was in the shop. I didn't really want another Porsche, because I'd had mine for three years and just wanted something different. Also I've always respected the GT-R's ability to perform. Since I live in Manhattan and daily drive my car there aren't too many options that make sense and the turbo and GT-R are at the top of that list.

Fast forward to last week, I decided I was selling my car and getting a GT-R. The only problem was that I only wanted a 2012, either blue or white, preferably blue. But I despise the "Black Edition" so I had to find a car that was premium, also with summer tires, not the all season nonsense. After searching a bit on my own and only finding black or grey cars that were black edition I asked some friends if they could help me find my next ride. Within about 30 minutes a friend had posted a blue car in Colorado that fit the bill to a tee. The call was made and a deposit was put down.

The next question was whether to ship it or to drive it back. Initially I considered driving to save a few bucks and also to get break in out of the way quickly. Then after floating the concept past some friends I was told that I should take the scenic route and explore some of the great roads that are hidden in the fly over states (no offense.. (well.. maybe a little offense)) So I've been given this route which I'll link below and I'm planning on taking about 7 or 8 days to casually drive my new GT-R from Denver to NYC. If anyone lives along the route and wants to meet up as I pass through let me know, I'd be happy to go for a spin.

You are guessing very correctly.

I'm planning on giving myself 7 days, I'll sort out an itinerary tomorrow. I am trying to fit in Antelope Canyon in Arizona as I'd love to take some photos there. Not sure it makes sense though, it's pretty far out of the way.
What dealership did you get the car from? Ive driven a GTR from DC to Denver and back, fun trip. Good luck with your trip.
Congrats to your new car! I bought a new GT-R myself this wednesday. I will actually fly over to the states tomorrow and spend next weekend In NYC. Would be nice to meet up and perhaps look at your beast?

I won't be back by then, next time for sure..

Here is the updated itinerary. I need to revise Saturday though, it's too much driving.

Tuesday 9/27: Land in denver 12:30, pick up the car, have a friend living there who I'll stay with.
Wednesday: Explore some CO roads that Blair will show me, spend the night having fun.
Thursday: Hit the road for Antelope Canyon which is at the top of Arizona. (628 Miles) Hopefully make it there at some point late Thursday night.
Friday: Explore Antelope Canyon with my camera.
Saturday: Maybe some more photos in the morning, then off to Oklahoma City to sleep. (944 miles)
Sunday: Head to Blanchard Springs, Arkansas (285 miles) see Caverns. Go to Little Rock to spend the night (185 miles)
Monday: Head to Holly Springs, Mississippi (185 miles). Have a friend there, spend the night.
Tuesday: Head to Asheville for the night. (500 miles)
Wednesday: Leave Asheville, drive "Tail of the Dragon" then Back to NYC (700 miles)

Seems like about 4k miles in all.

Seems like my plan has changed, I need to be back in work on Monday, so I am going to straight shot home. Denver, Omaha, Chicago, Cleveland and then NYC. So I'd be happy to take you up on that offer depending on what time I get to Chicago on Friday and when you close up shop..

Thanks,

AJ
I'll be at AMS on Friday around 3,then hitting Downtown Chicago after.Let me know if you want to grab a drink or a snack

New GT-R owner... Stopping to see Eric & AMS... And one of the big HP AMS car owners is in town and has time for a drink/snack... What could possibly go wrong...

RUN NOW AJ, RUN! Next thing you know you'll be getting dropped off at O'Hare and flying back to NYC because your car is at AMS for a little while getting "Alpha'd"

All kidding aside congrats on the car and the AMS guys are a must-see stop if you're in the neighbourhood...

haha, I always say I won't mod for a while. When I got my turbo I actually lasted about 6 months, then it was straight pipes and a tune, a few months later followed by headers. The only qualm I have with modifying the GT-R is the warranty. When I did get around to it I was going to go through a Nissan performance shop, do intake, mid pipe, exhaust and cobb tune so that they would cover my warranty should anything go wrong..
Absolutely, I'll try to be there for 3.

AFAIK AMS is all about reliability. I think you'd be in good hands.

First of all--Welcome AJ!! Glad to see you hear..

Seecond---Stop crying Waaaaaaaaaaaranty.. All you need is a cool Svc Mngr... They will slide you through... No matter who does the work, if Nismo has to get involved--you always run a small risk of the void.. Not likethe P-cars..

Third--no worries.. I did Intake, Midpipe, and Custom tune (1 step past Cobb stage2) within first month.. Car pulls like crazy, and no worries... runs like a top...

Be good, safe home...............................
Sounds great! I am here until 5pm on Friday and look forward to seeing you!
