I just had my 18k mile service performed today and according to the gtr tech at the dealership, the old fluids looked pretty good still and there were no visible particles around the plug or in the drained fluid. So...I go to drive away and I notice a fairly constant grinding-type noise that (I know this sounds stupid), but almost sounds like something is dragging under the car. This noise is very noticable to me becuase unlike most owners, i understand, my gtr has for some reason always been pretty rattle and noise free. Anyway, I immediately returned to the dealership, but the gtr tech was in his car leaving for the day, so they put me in a loaner car and he's gonna look at it first thing in the am.

Question: is a noise like this from either the transmission or the diffs common immediately after a fluid change of both? In other words, does it go away once the new fluid works it's way in or something?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hey Jeremy. I didn't look at the gauges and I didn't notice anything different about the shifting feel or smoothness...in other words, if I didn't hear the noise, I wouldn't have noticed anything at all.

It's certainly possible the noise wasn't the transmission. I had the diff fluids changed too...maybe it was them? Or maybe it was neither and the tech will find something all together different.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience like this before.

If ANYTHING, your transmission would be quieter and shift smoother after getting new fluid....NOT the opposite.

When the car was making said noises, did you happen to look at any of your gauges ?

If so, was your trans pressure and trans temps okay ?

Was the car shifting normal ?

After trying some Mobil-1 75W-140 differential fluid, another member had some terrible differential noises. Not grinding, per se, but "popping". This was due to inadequate "limited slip" additive in the Mobil-1 that is present in the OEM Castrol.

Maybe they tried a different fluid than OEM? This wouldn't seem likely, but considering the noise?.....

Thanks for the reply Shawn. In my case, both fluids were oem.

Who knows, maybe/hopefully it's something stupid that the tech finds tomorrow.

Let us know how it goes
Picked my car up this morning and all is 100% fine. There apparently is a shield near the rear-diff. that was loose and making the noise. The tech got it up on the lift and said he immediatly saw what was wrong.

Those panels have to be bolted in tight or else they will rattle. I do the fluid myself and I left one bolt loose. It rattled until I tightened it.
