I was racing a friend's z06 last night on very short runs. I noticed at 40-60 mph, if he got a little jump on me, he would be side by side with me for the 2-4 second runs (traffic). If we start exactly the same, I would pull right away on him.

What do you all think the reason he is able to hang when he gets a fraction of a second jump on me? Do you think it is the turbo lag on my car or is my car not running right? My car made 582whp on a mustang dyno in 95 degrees weather.

The jump means he is pulling on you for a certain amount of time. If you both vbox the runs, you will see when you pull even with him on speed. It could be 1 s. If it is 1 s, now you are going the same speed, but he is ahead of you by a certain distance. You only have 2-3 seconds to pull even with him.

probably not enough time to pull on him.... I ran a slightly modded z06 at PBIR and it was pretty even, I had a very slight pull...

The only change I made since the dyno tune was blow of valves. Should
I do a data log in 3 rd gear?

He's probably not bone stock. An intake, headers, and a tune can get around 490rwhp if I remember right. It is a very fast car and I could see it hanging with a tuned GT-R. One like your's though should be very strong. You still have the power and transmission advantage so you should walk him. The reason he hung with you in the beginning is that the Z06 is N/A and he probably got a slight jump on you while you might have his the throttle a bit late and by the time (fraction of a second) your turbos spooled, he was already ahead. If you really want to ruin his day, take the race passed 150mph and watch him disappear in the rear view thanks to the horrendous 5th gear of the Z06.

If we hit it the same exact time, I pull quickly away.

If he jumped you , you need a few secs to make up ground .. why don't you take the car to the track and see what she runs? or at the very least do a Vbox run..

There may be a number of things at play here but most likely its your reaction time, bear in mind that beyond 400whp there is actually not that much between most cars on the initial acceleration of a pull, it's generally a given that the more hp your running the larger gaps you'll pull once the initial inertia has been overcome, I've raced quiet a few cars and have often been surprised by the ability of lesser cars to perform well over certain intervals, N/A engines in particular work very well from rolling starts as their lungs are primed and their in power however over a reasonable distance power will prevail and you'll sail by, I recently did a pull against a chipped Lambo Gallardo running a tubi exhaust and from 80mph it took me a gear change before I had pulled ahead (I'm running somewhere around 520whp) however once the gap opened I pulled lengths on him.
