**Sorry newbie question**

I've decided to go back to the GTR for the 2013 model year. Back in 2009 there was no rev restriction but today they perfected the launch even with using only 4000RPM? I've heard that the new launch control is engaged in R mode now? Does the launch control work in both manual and auto mode? If so which is faster?

There was a RPM restriction even for LC1 (2009). Yes R-mode is used for the VDC now and transmission. The suspension you can have in any position. The launch is much better, less wheelspin and wheel hop and less trauma for your transmission. I think people have gotten their best results with both M and A modes but of course A mode will be more consistent.

yeah.... i will say this auto is extremely consistent especially on that tricky 1-2 shift... its shifts at 6800 every time perfect... so the only way to better it is making small changes to shift points on the fly based on how that specific run feels like.

i ran that 6.9 1/8th mile in my signature my best ever run in manual mode but i had to adjust shifts for that specific run... i came off the line really hard and almost as an instinct i grabbed the paddle and short shifted at about 6600 then held to 7K redline the rest of the shifts... but to show you how small of a difference that made i was just a few hundredths off that best time ever in auto..

so if you want to pull up and smash every other car like clock work ..stick it in auto... no shame in it at all

so yes it works well in both... i always tells people lay down a baseline in auto mode first.. then you can work on bettering it in manual by learning how to quickly to the 1-2 shift... after that with practice the rest of the shifts take just a run or two to nail down

another trick is launch in R C ( comfort suspension) R for for the 2012... nissan tested it last year in RRR and got a 2.88... after that test nissan started telling different car magazines and journalists to use RCR setting.... i tried it myself and it works for me... i cant say its a big difference but my top 3 60fts were all in comfort mode..... could i have replicated them in another setting? possibly...but i proved if anyhing it doesnt hurt the launch at all...

for a 2013 nissan uses R N (normal suspension) R (but they did that with a track pack car with stiffer suspension so the N setting could be to compensate for the suspension on that specific car) so i would need to test a US spec 13 and see what suspension setting its optimal... there is a very very slight difference in the suspension so thats not a major issue to iron out and really isnt that relevant to this discussion...just brought it up while i was at it

Great info, thanks everyone. I always wanted to get kicked off the track by running 10's without a cage. LOL!

Since the GTR is rear biased the soft suspension mode makes sense but actual tested results is fact. Now I hope I don't regret placing an order before checking out the new NSX concept next week!

I kinda regret getting rid of my original GTR purchased in 2008 since I had a nice book and certificate with it. The first batch did not have rev restriction with was remedied quickly with a Nissan tranny reflash. Does the newer models come with the car's birth certificate?

That nsx is supposed to be only 400hp car
Maybe but the electric running the front wheels may be the next step towards high performance and MPG. I had a few NSX's in the past and always liked them. The LFA light / supra or whatever it's called also interest me but that's probably in the next 2 year with everthing else like. the 991GT3, the next R36 GTR, redesigned R8, NSX and etc. They always do the same time which drives me crazy LOL.
