Just curious ran at the strip in r mode auto but when switch to manual r mode goes off. If you flip back on does that mean that the car will not over ride if hit redline? Manual says it will not but other posts says it will. Any comments?

+1

With the Cobb and the alpha maps, you can run R in Manual, flip back and forth between the two.

09-10 default to normal when switching from Auto to Manual or vice versa, whereas 2011-12 stay in R-Mode.

For 09-10 owners I added a function to my memory box to restore the R-mode

Cobbs new ALPHA software can also SAVE your R mode setting without having to rewire or add any black boxes.
True, the main purpose of the memory box was/is to SAVE the settings when the car is turned off, the ALPHA software wont help with that. I only added the 2009/10 function based on requests from 2009/10 owners, but you are right, the Alpha software basically makes the 2009/10s behave like the 2011/12.

Charles Charlie Charles (someone who has the APLHA software) was kind enough to make the following video showing it in action.

I just wanted to show there is an option for those without a Cobb unit, or those who don't want to flash their firmware.

Not if your in R mode.

R mod for shifting is useless IMHO. My car runs EXACTLY the same in the 1/4 mile in R mode auto, standard auto or just plan M mode and letting it shift on it's own.

My car doesn't shift any faster in R mode at all.

Hmmmm, I heard ALPHA's end game was to remember your setting even after you turn off your car.... Not sure if I'm right though. Joe would know.
I don't think so. I asked all the Gurus if this could be done in firmware before embarking on this project (I'm a software guy so that was my first question). I think one problem was that each setting is controlled by a different brain and the switches are not on the canbus either. I don't think it is the focus of Cobb team either, maintaining the R-Mode on the transmission was really just a byproduct because it is based on the 2012 firmware.

If you flip the paddle while in auto mode does it go into full manual like moving the shifter does or is it a semi manual mode that lets you pick allowable gears but still upshifts? My ISF had a manual mode but there was Full and a semi manual. Full auto engaged by the shifter wouldn't upshift at all even at redline unless you told it to. If the car was in auto and you hit a paddle it would go to semi manual mode but the car would still shift for you if you forgot to. Also in both semi and full manual the car will beep when it's time to shift. Does the GTR beep or flash a light before redline?

From my current understanding about auto upshifting:
Auto: Yes it will upshift
Auto R: Yes
Paddle initiated manual: Yes
Paddle initiated manual R: Yes
Shifter initiated manual: No

Is this correct?

2011 here. It remains in R mode when switching from manual to auto and vice versa. On a side note, it automatically upshifts at redline when in regular manual mode (which is cool) but not in manual R mode (for total control).
