Ready to start considering mods to my 2012 GT-R..

So, I'm new here. And I'm sure that this forum, like every forum I've been on has quite a lot of useful information on it if I take the time to search for it. But this also seems like a relatively quite place and I'm lazy, so I'm just going to ask my questions here so that my answers are consolidated, current and tailored towards me.

So I'll do a full write up about my thoughts/experiences with the car, hopefully at some point today. But I feel like it could use a little more power at the top end and the car is certainly WAY too quiet for me. Also if I can get a bunch more performance out of easy mods that's a fight I just won't win.

So what's my best bet for bolt on and easy modifications? From the skimming that I've done it seems like: Exhaust, Y-pipe, down pipe, mid pipe (maybe some of these are the same by different names?) intake, air filter and a tune are all that's possible before it gets out of hand with replacing engine components. Have I missed anything and who are the best manufacturers to get those from? Also, LOUD is good. And are tunes specific to 2012's yet?

As far as visual mods, where can I get clear side markers, and the side vent/GT-R badge thingy above it in black? Also the Nissan center caps for the wheels.

Thanks for any advice/info. and I'm in New York City.

I think the 2012 and the older GTR parts all same. I did Down Pipe/ Midpipe, and running on E85. I love it other than there are not too many gas stations around. It is louder, I am still saving up more money for a exhaust to change the tune a little bit. Not sure where you located at but TOPSPEED at ATL does a great job if you don't know what you are doing. best of luck!
Damn you make 601awhp on just a downpipe midpipe and tune? Is this a really aggressive tune.

afaik it goes intakes -> engine -> downs -> mid -> Y -> exhaust assembly
The mid pipe and the Y-pipe are one in the same. By far, the best bang for the buck is a Y-pipe and a Cobb Access Port tune. There are more gains to be had in downpipes and intakes, but the cost goes up significantly for less gain than just the Y-pipe and a tune. Also, if you go with downpipes +/- intakes, you'll likely need larger injectors as you will run the chance of overwehlming the stockers in cool/cold weather and running lean, increasing the risk for detonation.

The Y-pipe alone will wake up the exhaust note, but not nearly to the degree that downpipes will. I have AAM decatted downpipes, Cobb catted midpipe, and an HKS Legamax catback. The gains from the catback are minimal with respect to power. I chose the Legamax because it is only 1 dB louder than stock. I'm glad that I did, as I like my car a bit loud, but not obnoxiously so. With my current setup, I am right on the borderline. What I love about the setup that I have is that even though it is much louder than stock, it is not obnoxious, and most of the volume increase is in the lower registers, so the car sounds very deep and throaty at lower revs, like driving through my neighborhood. When I got to a track day and I get to open up the car, the sound at full song is intoxicating.

Good luck in your own personal quest.

Are tunes specific to mods? I know with my Porsche turbo the tune was tailored to what mods I had already done to the car. I'm just trying to sort out if I need to decide on and get parts before getting a tune..

tunes are specific to each vehicle and parts combo. with the different physical setups of any combination of parts, you have different potentials to maximize.
You would not happen to own a Super Sliver GT-R would you?
I was in the city the other day and saw someone that was younger, wearing sunglasses and looked like your Avatar pic, driving a 2012 Super Silver GT-R.
AJ.. Do At least a Mid-pipe, and intake...Will sound sweet... And Definatly do a custom tune..(you still buy the COBB Acessport--then they make a custom map for you) You can switch maps on the fly, change the boost, and remove the tune for the dealer yourself... Its an awesome product--Way better than the Softronic flash on the turbos...

Call Mike at AAM Great guy, Great products. I'm running a 17.5lb boost custom tune, AAM 2.75' intake and AAM Resonated Mid-pipe. Car sounds awesome and is fast as hell!!!
