Beautiful sunny but somewhat blustery autum day, perfect time to drive my month-old car to work when just a mile away from work while talking to my sister via car's blue tooth when we both heard this loud thud coming from the roof of my car! I thought, wow, my car is so damaged, was quite sure it was a tree limb/branch...how best to start the day. Luckily, did not find any dent/damage, and concluded was either a pine cone or acorn (?) because of the light nickel-size brownish residue on the roof, which I simple wiped off with spray wax. I'm sure my car will have its share of dents but I'm not ready to have this early....

Good thing you didn't get a dent from whatever it was. Everything seems loud inside this car, I cringe when I hear rocks kicking up under it.

similar thing happened to me one night this week.. hadnt driven my car in like a week... decided to go run up to the gas station and stretch its legs.... all of the sudden i hear a loud metallic bang from under the car.... pulled over...inspected and nothing was there...... never saw what i hit either.... just random

@Tom/MC: yup, I cringe as well. Besides the crazy drivers out there, we try to ' protect' /safeguard the car -- mine has the clear bra venture shield for some 'peace of mind' but you know, shit happens beyond our control. Glad nothing happened... at least none that I have seen yet..

Years ago I had a friend drive a just bought new S2000 off the dealer lot and instantly a truck comes by carrying pieces of wood logs. One happened to fly out after hitting a bump and landed right on his bumper. Huge piece of missing paint right out of the dealer. Just goes to show how random and f'ed up the roads are...
