Hey guys, been lurking on the site for a while and thinking about picking up a 2012 premium edition. Any insight would be appreciated...Basically, I've bought/sold/traded in 2 sports cars in the last year because I got bored of them. This won't be a daily driver but it would be something I drive 1-2 days a week. I had an 04 viper and it just wasn't practical enough for me to drive as much as I wanted because the heat that would come off of the engine and lack of features like bluetooth/nav/so on and getting in/out wasn't the easiest. I need to get in/out alot during the day when working. The other was an 09 cts-v that had all the features/extras but I just got bored of it. I think one reason was the fact that is was a 4 door and I never used the back seat. High end torque was awesome and sounded great with intake/tune/exhaust and maintenance was cheap and caddy dealer was great to deal with. Besides the 2012 GTR, I was looking at used Gallardos or R8. I would like something decently comfortable and refined that I wouldn't get bored of. I'd probably almost never track it, maybe 1-2 times a year. You think the 2012 would do it for me? Also, you guys think If I keep it a year and sell it, that I wouldn't take a huge beating on it? I was thinking of buy an 09-10, but since they made some upgrades, the 12 makes more sense to me...

Thanks

cons: No back seat room even for amputees, unless you're < 5 feet tall (doesn't sound like an issue for you, thoug), seat comfort could be better for wide-frame guys like me, audio controls are stupid: press DOWN for next track??? LOL, hands-free/voice system kinda sucks. Takes 2 minutes to get your phone to call someone. Ride can be somewhat harsh over shitty roads, so I turn on comf mode, which helps. somewhat loud, however, $200 worth of dynomat + some elbow grease will fix that. Car sits very low, so getting some sort of lower lip cover is a must (just scraped the shit out of mine going up a steep parking lot hill, even very slowly).

pros: Excellent daily driver, trunk is big enough to go grocery shopping (fit full cart loaded to the top and had room to spare), driving it is a blast and pleasurable, look magnet, fast as sh!t. Car holds it's value very nicely, heard from several dealers that 2013's either won't be re-designed at all or if they will, it will be late in 2013. Expect to have the car hold it's value very well. comparing to other cars in it's price range/class, I can't think of one that will depreciate LESS than a GT-R.

the only thing that really bothers me with having it as a daily driver:

1. Extremely expensive brakes +rotors ($3K+ for complete replacement of rotors and pads, though rotors should last you a while)
2. Some fluids are costly but again, if u don't track it - not that expensive

If you're the kind of person that freaks out over scrapes/scratches - be ready to park at the end of universe and yell at family members who come too close. Mine got scuffed already by my 9 year old... he got off easy (only grounded for a month, all allowance stripped away until the end of the year).

However, in the end - none of that matters when you punch it and hear those sweet and sexy twins under the hood start whistling... XD

If you don't plan on hacking the crap out of the car/tuning it (which may kill re-sale value, tbh) - 2012 best choice due to more HP and major improvements over previous years.

excellent review: http://www.autoblog....view-road-test/

I've talked to several ppl who previously had a Viper and all of them gave GT-R thumbs up, saying viper couldn't even hold a candle to GT-R

btw: Just yesterday: 3 ppl took pics of the car, 1 biker gave thumbs up as he passed me, 4 ppl complimenting the car, 2 stopped to chat about it, almost everyone stares when they pass... so, if you like that sort of attention - that's your ride. My wife actually took it out for a spin and came back saying: "no, this is not for me - way too many ppl stare" LMAO (and she's the one who always dresses to the 9's and hard to miss even without a make up., gives me major jelly headaches too)

thanks...looks like I'm going to have to buy one and try it out, if not I'll always regret it. Plus, since it'll probably hold its resale value better than a used gallardo or R8, it'll be easier to get rid of if I want to sell it. I was thinking about holding out and waiting for the 2013, but its too far away and the blue is what I want and who knows if they'll make that in 2013. I've had an 04 xlr that was that color blue, 2 04 escalade ext's in that blue, and recently had an 06 h2 sut in that color, so I think the blue is a must for me.

that was #1 choice of color too... had to "settle" for SS. Dealer tried to charge me $3K for it but I said - paint it blue and charge me $3K less and I'll take it. ;)

I'd buy a black ed in blue but for the price I got mine - I have 0 complaints ;-) Plus it's lighter on the wallet, as I don't have to wash it/detail it as frequently. BTW, 09 blue was (imo) my most favorite color of all time.

bonus points: you can actually DRIVE the car without worrying too much about resale value. Just check ebay to see what these sell for and do your math. There were stories here that people ended up paying something rediculous like $300/month for driving the car for 2 years. How many cars in that category you can buy that will end up costing you $300/mo over 2 years?

I don't think you will regret it... interior quality could have been more upscale but at the same time you can spank R8 for a lot less money too. The only thing I could say that may sway you either way - until turbos kick in, you might as well be driving any other car. Very civil, very well-mannered, almost too docile. The moment you floor it - OH BOY. My neck let me know I shouldn't do it too often.

Don't worry, they will certainly keep the blue for '13.

That I can fully understand. To me, my CTSV just felt like a Tank with lots of torque and a sloppy transmission. The GTR is not as comfortable, but it is faster, tighter, and much more unique. So much better overall.

They hold their value very nicely too..

Unless you want to pay 30k over MSRP there are no premiums left.
There are premiums out there just need to find them. Definitely more black editions, but premiums exist and dealers are getting them right now. A dealer that is across the county from me just got a blue premium and want sticker, I would pay sticker if they pay for enclosed shipping to me. We'll see, a GM recently told me that there are a good amount of 2012's coming in the next month. I hate paying sticker, but this car I may have to.

All the premiums have been shipped, the only GTR's dealers are getting ar BE's. When you buy a premium at sticker you can prove me wrong until then I call BS.

You can call it BS all you want, but who in there right mind would pay 30K over sticker to get a premium when they could get a black edition for 96k? The only reason I haven't got the blue premium for sticker is because a few GM's in my area have said they will do 3k under sticker if I wait? All the premiums have not shipped, Passport Nissan is getting a gunmental within 2 weeks and sheehy nissan is getting a black one at the end of sept. Maybe you don't know everything...

true, the Gallardo won't be under warranty, but they are pretty reliable cars.... no big maintenance costs, standard fluid changes, etc... a clutch can be expensive, early 2004 e-gear cars would each clutches, but most have bee updated with new software so they last 20k+ miles....

I was thinking of getting a gallardo, like 04-06(around 100k), but I'm worried about maintenance/repairs, since the GTR would be new and wouldn't have to worry about it for a while
